What are you being referred for ? Gynae are usually fertility help with pcos but if it is general help for pcos then you need to see an endocrinologist as pcos is a endocrine disorder and not really ovary or 'down below' related.

Hmmmm, so I don't really know. Made sense to me when she said go an see one but I am not yet looking at fertility options and now that my appointment is coming up I am a little stumped as to what the purpose of a gynae appointment is for :s I think she felt they might be able to offer more than just what she can do on the NHS here in the UK

well just think of anything to ask, anything that could help PCOS, ask to be tested for insulin resistance as we have a high risk of this (ask for a glucose tollerance test so blood test, sugary drink then another blood test as this shows how your body deals with glucose so dont let the fob you off that the one blood test is good enough). Ask diet (low GI) - I would bombard him with questions really so write anything down that is niggling you ! Are your periods relatively regular ?

At least your GP is interested as sadly a lot are not and will not refer patients and just say lose weight which is quite unhelpful as it is not always that easy.

Honestly my GP has been great! She did my bloods and ultrasound, trialed orlistat, and has recommended a gynae. I've lived a paleo diet for about 6/7 years and so orlistat has done nothing as I don't eat badly enough for it to work and she has said given I go to the gym 4 times a week, rarely drink alcohol and live cleanly that she is recommending weight loss surgery as I am still piling on the pounds!

I will definitely ask around the insulin resistance tests, that is really helpful thank you! i had the implanon for about 5 years and now on cerazzet so I haven't been having regular periods for quite a while!

Can you go on the combined pill as it does make losing weight a bit easier - I find exercise confuses weight loss sometimes- if we ate the rda we would still put on 2lb a month so over a stone a year so we need to eat considerably less just to maintain it!

I already eat between 1300-1500 calories a day :( Has been a nightmare! No she doesn't want to due to weight. I did go through a time of eating about 1000-1100 per day but my body went into starvation mode and started changing my breath etc.

I would stick to 1500 + if you are doing cardio as well, also do weights as that is great for pcos (in some ways more than cardio).

We do go into starvation mode very easily so then store it - yey lucky us ...

I did the Norah Lane diet (she is just about to launch a new book, one lady lost 7 stone in a year on it. Norah knows pcos inside out so is great in my view, I lost 2 stone in 3 months so I only had a stone to go which I lost more slowly but still, a great diet. There is a Facebook group actually that I am with, its the only diet that I consistently lost weight on (I didnt exercise when I went on it as they felt I was eating too little prior to going on this diet). They take some questions and work out what your metabolic rate is and do weekly meal plans etc.
