I am 30 years old, I got told I had PCOS last year at GP. At the time I was emotional but never really took it in as my dad was going through a cancer battle at the time. He is now thankfully doing great. However now I am feeling lost in my battle as I don’t know where to start. I never took in what the doctor was telling me to be honest as my mind was not on me. Now I wish I had asked more instead of just taking the website address she handed me to look it up at home. Myself and parter are wanting children, is it better to start now or wait the year or two as we planned? Would it be bad to go back to the doctor to ask the many questions I have? Or can anyone recommend the best person who to ask? Sorry for the long post, just feeling a little lost and overwhelmed just now!
Where do I start: I am 30 years old, I got... - PCOS UK (Verity)
Where do I start
you could go bavk to doctors and ask them questions they will explain everything to you.... it depends how bad your pcos is as it might jot be to bad or it might be worse....with pcos its harder to conceive naturally as it mess with ovulation.... some women dont ovulate at all... I suffer with pcos and it took me 5 years tc naturally..... my old doctors I was at wpuldnt do nothing for me.... it wasnt till I moved towns I was going to get help with it.
can I ask what is your weight like your diet and are your periods regular..... of you are over weight I was told losing weight and a good healthy diet will sprt of help.... its defo worth going back to your gp and ask them questions they will have all the correct answers for you good luck xx
Thank you so much for replying.
Weight wise I am not bad, only really carry extra weight around my stomach but within a healthy BMI. But have to really watch what I eat. I do crave sweet things but try to limit these. Period wise I never had a period for around 6 months but the last 4 months I have had one every 5 weeks.
I am going to make an appointment at GP. I think I just needed to get it out there, don’t like to talk to my family too much about it all as they don’t really understand it all xx
We are so different, some ladies have no issues conceiving and some do, I would recommend getting your body in great shape for when you do want to start trying (BMI needs to be below 30 to qualify for fertility treatment on the NHS), also your partner too as 1/3 of fertility issues are men (my husbands was terrible with lots of dead and two tailed, he had good diet, didn't smoke or drink much so it was a massive shock, I put him on the Boots Vit C and zinc tablets and his sperm improved by more than 100% in a year so you could get your partner on those as a precaution).
Our egg quality remains better for longer so we can conceive later than the norm, I conceived Noah when I was 36 and he is now 13, it is really rare not to conceive just due to pcos and there is loads of help available.
When you do start trying to conceive then look at the fertilityfriends website as it gives tips on find out if you are ovulating (as periods dont mean you are ovulating and you can ovulate without one too so its nice and straight forward)
Low GI is a good diet for pcos ladies.
Hi,
I think you should go to see your GP doctor an tell them to refer you for gynecology specialist .
Coz I'm suffering with the pcos as well.an it's been up to 2 year now had operation was taking to much medication to control faced lots of issue specially weight issue, irregular periods, etc.
My advice is you have to see your gynecology as soon as possible.
