Hi all

I'm new here - I've just found out I have PCOS. I was on the pill for 10 years, came off a year ago and have been trying to conceive for the last 6 months. I have a few questions if anyone is able to help me out (sorry if these are dumb or if they don't make sense, this is all very new to me!)

- There are some PCOS symptoms I haven't experienced yet e.g. excess hair. Is it just a matter of time (as I've only been off the pill for a year) or do you not have all of the symptoms?

- Can your symptoms change over the years or do they tend to stay the same?

- Have you found anything particularly helpful with trying to conceive? My doctor has suggested ovulation tests might be helpful.

- Have you found anything helpful for managing your symptoms? I'm a little worried about the link with diabetes, as I have had issues with low blood sugars in the past.

Thanks and sorry for all the questions - Dr. Google hasn't been very helpful (or I've been looking in the wrong place).

Hey, not everyone has symptoms with PCOS, some have none other have loads. Me personally I have excessive hair, weight issues, type 2 diabetes 😓. Ovulation rest don’t really work with women who have PCOS unfortunately. Iv been ttc for over 15 years now & I have only been at the fertility clinic for 3 years, tried clomid (didn’t work) tried letrozole (didn’t work) now Iv been offer SO & IUI if this fails it will be ivf. Don’t let this put you off though as plenty of women have fallen pregnant.

PCOS is only linked to type 2 diabetes which is high blood sugar. After a year of trying to conceive you will be referred to a fertility hospital. Has your doctor prescribed you with Metformin? Hope this helps & Good Luck on your journey.

Thanks for the reply Chloe11111 and for the insight, I really appreciate it. I hope SO and IUI work out for you. I haven't been prescribed anything currently, they just tried to put me back on the pill again (which kind of defeats the object as I'm ttc!) x

Agree with Chloe - what is your BMI currently as that is key. You can be referred after 6 months as it is a known fertility issue. Also 1/3 of fertility issues are now men so make sure his diet is good and get him on the Boots Vit C and zinc tablets as a precaution, my husbands improved by over 100% in a year after taking them (had lots of dead and two tailed sperm even tho he had a good diet, not particularly overweight and didnt drink/smoke)

Thanks for the reply, my doctor said I have to wait until 1 year to be referred to a fertility clinic so Ive got another 6 months until I can go back for a referral. That's a really good point, I hadn't thought of that - I've recently started on folic acid so will look into getting my husband some vitamins. I'm keen on trying diet/lifestyle/vitamins etc before I go down the meds route. Fingers crossed! Thanks again for your help x
