.....Can anyone please please help me. I have been told I have high thyroid antibodies and a low thyroid. I have been given thyroxine. I've taken it for 4 weeks and my heart is beating too quickly. My second blood test shows my T4 go up but my T3 go down. I feel so exhausted Im scared. If my T3 goes down any more it'll be off the scale. I'm seeing a private thyroid specialist at the weekend but have been told I have to keep taking the thyroxine 25mcg until I do or it will make my blood tests results invalid. Fair enough. So I'll put up with the fast beating of my heart until someone can help me. Does anyone know - can thyroxine make your T3 go down? Do I need T3 hormone instead? My body aches, I cry and Im exhausted. I can't live like this. Thank you xx

Thyroxine/Thyroid help please.....
Hi! I have been ill with Grave's disease for 9 years and had my thyroid removed last december, I'm now on thyroxine since. I would just tell you that you should ask to be seen by a cardiologist if your heart is beating too quick. You should be checked and maybe given some drugs to slow down your heart beat..hope it helps..
I had high thyroid antibodies and I think that suggests an autoimmune response - your body will be attacking your thyroid gland. I didn't have a fast beating heart but I have an arrhythmia that can give me palpitations. I cut wheat/gluten out of my diet and found it helped with the autoimmune situation.
....when I first started T4 in 2005 I too felt awful on 25mcg and had funny moments with the heart. I was 59 at the time. I spoke with the Endo here in Crete and he told me to stop taking the T4 for a few days/week I think - and then re-start with 12.5 mcg and build up slowly to the 25mcg and see how you feel. It seemed better at the second go !
if you have been under-active for a long time then it takes time for the body to adjust and for all those trillions of starved cells to swing into action again. Of course that includes the heart too.
It would be helpful if we could see your test results with the ranges and then we will know a little more. T4 remains in the body and is a storage hormone so missing it for a few days shouldn't hurt. Just listen carefully to your body. I am not a medic and can only share my experience with you. Just don't panic.....everything takes time.
from my experience, thyroxine cant make your T3 go down!
You take thyroxine(T4) which your body then turns into T3 for use were its needed.
Therefore if your body cant turn the thyroxine into T3 it wont reach where you need it! and so your hypo symptoms will worsen no matter how much Thyroxine you take!
Hope this makes sense. Good luck
Thanks guys, I will cut out wheat. Maybe something else is making my T3 go down? Although I dont know what.
