I just went to the surgery to discuss my issues with a g,p havent met before as mine usual one is not in, I shown him my private blood results, cortisol and dhea, didnt even look at them, I explained about my abnormal TSH t4 and t3 and my out of range thyroglobulin antibodies. wait for it!!! he said that the eltoxin 25mcg has caused me to be hyperthyroid and it takes a month to get out of the system, I went on to say I had these issues before starting eltroxin and was advised to have a trial for hashi. I asked what I should do about the feeling Im having and my neck pain, he didnt have a answer, basically I have been turned away, with neck pain heart palps feeling hot/ cold/ bone and muscle pain and a host of other smptoms.

its a discrace, left in lumber no meds and worried and to top it all its christmas. What a complete utter D head sorry.

I also told him that I ffel choking all the time and he said its the eltoxin that i took, I told him I had choking sensation for a year before the bloody meds.

terrible, teribble, teribble I hope nothing happens to me in the interim.

He couldnt feel nodes but they swell up arghhh does he think I am stupid, ow and my neck pain is muscle tention wat the? so sorry I am utterly shocked, what i great christmas Im going to have.

not sure what route to go down now.

please give some direction.

Hi, it is so frustrating I know. Have you thought about asking if there is a practice manager you could talk too? My friends works at a doctors and she recommended I did that, in the end I saw the 3rd gp at the practice and although she isn't perfect she is better. Maybe speak to the manager or maybe try another doctor. My 2nd was terrible, she was so rude that when I left I complained about her to the receptionist, and actually they were ok with me, and offered for me to see another gp...it's such a shock when you have this condition and realise you can't always or rarely get the help and knowledge from the gp. Hi Merrisa am so sorry you've had such bad treatment, I wish I could say it was shocking but that would be a lie. This is almost standard.

From your post four days ago it seems you are hyperthyroid. Have they tested you for Graves antibodies? Why on earth were you on eltoxin for hyper symptoms? Are you on carbimazole or block and replace therapy? Sorry for all the questions, not been on here a lot recently so not sure where you are at.

Merrisa just read a few of your recent posts and cannot believe you have not been put on the correct meds. Being this hyper is dangerous and bad for your heart. I was like this seven years ago and was immediately put on beta blockers by GP and he rushed through an emergency appointment with endo to get me on carbimazole.

Honestly, if I were you i'd be going to A&E and demanding ecg and bloods and then the correct meds. You have to get your heart calmed down. xx

I am considering this( Aand E) I was origionallyput on 25cmg eltroxin, for thyroglobulin antibodies, I stopped them as I had no joy, my blood test showed abnormal results. However after a couple of weeks and not taking eltoroxin, my bloods came in again abnormal with high thyroglobulin antibodies.

I was diagnosed with Hashi( private) I do seem to swing, but my hyper smptoms are not resolving. My cortisol is high and dhea all through the day, The doc didnt even acknowledge this arghhhh.

if my heart starts going of on one and i am extremely hot, then Im of to a and e.

Merissa, I'm so sorry to read of your unhelpful doctor's appointment. If you believe that your symptoms are due to having too much thyroid hormone in you, and thus being hypERthyroid, there is an over the counter supplement that might be worth trying to see if it helps at all. It's called L-Carnitine, and you can buy it in local high street shops as well as online.

Please remember that I am not medically qualified, nor do I have any personal experience of using this supplement. I cannot advise you on how to use this supplement, so if you do decide to try it, you must do your own research on this I'm afraid.

As you will see if you read further down that page, carnitine is also present in many foods. If you are not dairy intolerant, perhaps eating lots of yummy dairy foods such as cream etc might also be helpful!

The GP that said your neck problems are due to muscle tension may in fact have a point. What he more than likely does not know though, is that thyroid hormone in correct amounts is essential for proper muscle contraction and relaxation. An imbalance of thyroid hormone can cause terrible muscle tension, hence many of us suffer with cramps and spasms. And of course, when we are emotionally upset and feeling terrible, the muscle tension becomes even worse.

Looks like it's plan B merissa - no other option left, if you are feeling really bad, but to do as you suggested in the first place and go to A&E with all your blood tests. Dont be to quick to tell them of todays appt though as they can get a bit funny about mopping up GP's mistakes.

Shouldn't think it would do any harm going to A&E and you never know you might get better treatment - which isn't hard considering the treatment your GP gave you.

Hi Merissa - so sorry that you had such a rubbish appointment.

When I asked for a trial of thyroxine due to high TSH (18) but low normal FT3 and FT4 the endo was reluctant but agreed. He did say though that 50mcg of thyroxine (which is what he prescribed for me) wouldn't do me any harm, even if I didn't need it. So that makes me think that it is very unlikely that 25mcg of thyroxine which you have since stopped has caused these levels. Although we are all different of course

I agree with Moggie that you should go to A&E if you are worried about your heart or other really horrible symptoms but think that the supplement that RedApples suggests sounds like a good idea in the meantime.

Really hope you start to feel better soon in time for you to enjoy Christmas.

love to all of you and merry christmas, I will report back after new year. I knew you would direct me and of course I knew eltroxin 25mcg wouldnt have caused hyper stage because at times I broke them in half thats why im confused, I have researched this and no answers, also researched how long would it take for eltroxin 25mcg to leave the system anyone no? doc said at least 3 months, wat lol i do feel he should of acknowleded my cortisol results. When I think of him I quiver with anger and frustration, surely he could of suggested something, he asked what I wanted him to do, ummm now that was a hard answer, who is the patient here. My husband feels that he has a point, great. He not the one feeling he is going to have heart attack or over heat.

so glad I have all your support when you stand alone in this.

My cortisol is not helping and I believe this can also be dangerious especially elevated all day.

well betta drag myself to do tea, to be honest the hyper smptoms keep me motivated but dont like the physical side, probably crash back to hypo soon.

I really do not understand why the GP told you that Eltroxin caused your problems. If people have symptoms, I have read that a trial of thyroid hormone is harmless. Obviously not an enormous amount but not too low a dose either. Your 25mcg is very low.

I'm sorry you went through that.... Just dreadful... He obviously hadn't a clue... The advice above is good ...is your normal GP any better?? If not could you stand another change of doctor or even practice? I know it's hard ... I'm on my 5 th GP and 2nd practice and really haven't made much progress. Try and have a nice Xmas though... I have only recently joined this site and cannot believe the amout of us sufferers who have such shoddy treatment.

But also thank you Merissa. I have recently started self medicating using Armour as well as thyroxine. Its only by reading your post that I have realised the dreadful palpitations I have been suffering over the last day is due to over medicating . Without your post I wouldnt have realised nor known that it can be dangerous to me.
