Finally have my latest thyroid test results

Hi just managed to access my thyroid and vitamins test results from February Serum tsh level 1.8 mu/l (0.27-4.2)

Serum free T4 level 13.9 (12-22.0)

Serum free triodothyronine .4.2mol (3.1-6.8)

Phosphatase 15.2 out side ref range

Vitamin d 5.84

Vitam b12 395 (1.97-771.0)

Serum folate 7.0g ( 3.0-20.0 )

Ferritin 57 ug/l (13-150)

Seems most these were showing abnormal by the lab but Dr didn't say anything about them when she rang me and I had to fight to ge the increased thyroxine to 125 mcg for my weight I think I am short and Now I know the results I am glad I managed increase it but know dr didn't want it going the other way .

Apparently the dr had tried to ring me today as my referral to the spine clinic after waiting since october and told xmas I was just to wait til I got to the top of the queue .this I have. And now they have Said my referral has been rejected .so that's wasted 6 months nearly dr now wants to see me next week to see where we go now. My base spine still hurts that can be thyroid related so I was told and Hip.right side my left leg to knee has been going numb when tried walk on Monday my heel foot has been sore burning pain since nov23 .not been checked out at all. That also makes me feel unstable feet as if going to slip. So I am holding onto furniture again.

I was feeling a lot more stable on my feet and could stride a bit better.

Stenosis as mentioned before on my spine scan and Spondylitis nothing bad enough tho .And compressed vertebra .

I don't really see how the walking problems can be diagnosed or treated. If dont see thyroid specialists who may know my walking affected and why. Or someone deals with bone pain et c . I was told to see a Physio as the gp.didn't think thyroid affected walking the physio said he doesnt know why either as my leg strength is there.

Am seeing Dr next Tues to discuss the way forward. But think theres too much going on now. My back neck pain is the worst and aches all over . Soon as I stand I feel unstable shaky again it was better for while hubby gets annoyed as I couldn't get a blue badge without proof of something being relevant to qualify .so far I don't seem have anything. I have sciatica pain back right leg and numbness in left leg surely these relate to spine issues am just overwhelmed by how much I have going on and how to get a gp to actually start investigating it . 18 months later I am no nearer. 6 months referral to spine clinic has taken away any hope of them finding anything too Drs checked me in oct and said it wasn't normal but referred me to spine clinic as he said there's no right Or wrong place to send you.

What should I be asking gp next week. Do I list my many symptoms where I know they will just say too many things . Or is it case of more adjustments on my thyroid meds. I can't see an end to this unfortunately wasted years already and its got me nowhere. Ruling out spine issues might have helped xx

All of your vitamins are very low and I think you need to take vitamin D and folate for a start. As for your ferritin if mine was that low I would be very lethargic and my hair would be falling out. Hopefully an admin will be along to advise you shortly

How much levothyroxine were you on before this test

Which brand of levothyroxine

Do you always get same brand

EXACTLY what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Free T4 (fT4) 13.9 pmol/L (12 - 22)

Ft4 only 19.0% through range

Free T3 (fT3) 4.2 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8)

Ft3 slightly better at 29.7% through range

Aiming for Ft4 at least 50-60% through range, if not higher

Currently on inadequate dose of levothyroxine

Vit b12 395 (1.97-771.0)

Serum folate 7.0g ( 3.0-20.0 )

Both these are too low and need improvement

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement

A week later add a separate vitamin B Complex

Then once your serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), you may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

Highly effective B12 drops

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

healthline.com/nutrition/fo...

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid supplements

thyroidpharmacist.com/artic...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need 2 per day and/or may need separate methyl folate couple times a week

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70

Hi thank you for looking at my results I am relieved that you think my thyroid dosage is too low as well. Left to GPS I would still be on the 100 mcg. they left me on that dosage when had blood tested at Xmas no phone call to review it with me .just normal on my records after two months no word from Dr and feeling worse I wrote to say I wasnt happy as being left feeling I'll and under medicated I then had a gp ring who did the tests end February I didn't know the results until today as gp didn't mention numbers . But finally agreed to increase to 125 as I said need to try it and see ..so have been on them since . My weight went up so think 125 is way below What I need. Dr sounded dubious about that when I quoted the 1.6 mcg per kg . I can only hope that I feel some improvement soon .should you feel so bad to get well. ? I find it hard believe theres nothing seriously wrong when feel so rough but blood count tests seem ok . Why dont drs act on vitamins being low if know its essential for thyroid .I know she wanted the d 3 checked as I was going chilled a lot. Anyway. Must answer questions not ramble on. Lol. Not helping is it.

Thank you. Slowdragon

I was on levothyroxine Accord 100 mcg but have now added 25 mcg of wockhardt. I was taking. Boots vitamin b12 but not regularly enough and d3 I just forget sometimes. Will have to try get ferritin as well ? This is iron I think ? Am wondering was there a new brand of thyroxine that might suit better as I can ask chemist to try that maybe ? I think someone mentioned it . Thank you helping feel better knowing thyroxine still isn't correct xx

You should never take any iron supplements unless done a full iron panel test and results are low

Your ferritin is not very low

You probably don’t need iron supplements at all

Just increase iron rich foods in your diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week. Increase the amount of red meat you eat, other foods include pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

List of iron rich foods

dailyiron.net

ALWAYS test for anaemia with FULL iron panel before starting any iron supplements and retest 3-4 times a year

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

If taking any iron supplements stop 3-5 days before testing

Medichecks iron panel test
