High T4 since T3 started

Hi All

These are my latest results:

FT3 =6.1 (range 3.1 - 6.8 pmol/L

FT4 = 23.4 (range 12 - 22)

TSH 0.01 (range 0.27 -4.2)

I increased Levo from 75 to 100mg then was able to obtain T3. I am a poor converter of t4 to t3 Since my t3 is now in the top of the range, would you advise I reduce my levothyroxine back to 75mg.

also should I be concerned that my TSH is so suppressed?

I take vitamin D supplements and magnesium. Vit D = 99 nmol Previous result 113 nmol

Folate 10.2 ug/L

Active B12 = 116 pmol/L

TSAT = 46%

FERRITIN 329 ug/L

HB 142 g/L

I think it would be a very good idea to reduce your levo, yes. You're FT4 is much too high, and that's not good long-term.

But don't worry about the TSH. It's low because you're taking T3 and you don't need it any more. :)

Was test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test

you initially reduce to 87.5mcg

(or 75mcg and 100mcg on alternate days)

Which brand of levothyroxine are you using

Retest in 8 weeks

How much T3 are you taking

Are you normally splitting dose

I did reduce Levo to alternate days as you say but when they said I couldn’t have t3 I asked the to restore it to 100. I since got t3 prescribed but the NHS tablets are so small I can’t cute them again. They also told me to take all 10mg in the morning to get the energy benefit.

Last dose of Levo before test was less than 24hrs previous as I was not expecting the tests.

I would take 75 one day and 100 the next 87.5 sounds about right and would lower you FT4 result. I had to do exactly that when mine was over the top once.

Thank you. Do you think 75 will be too much of a drop then?

Yes maybe 87.5 for a few weeks then after testing see.

12.5 increase or decrease only recommended.
