Blood test results

Hi everyone!

I posted recently on here and found the information from this group SO valuable. I have just done a full thyroid blood test (Medichecks) and just wondered if anyone had any thoughts on if there is anything in particular I should be doing to manage my hashimoto's going forwards (I am interested to know if it is absolutely necessary for me to make diet changes and would also be interested in knowing if I should be thinking about fertility things- freezing eggs etc- in the future as I am 32 years old). The note from the Dr indicated that everything is normal but they suggested I need more iron- through diet. My results were as follows (I was not able to give percentages for everything as some of the ranges did not give a min or max value):

TSH 3.370 mIU/L (0.27 - 4.2) 78.9%

Free T4 (fT4) 18.9 pmol/L (12 - 22) 69.0%

Free T3 (fT3) 3.9 pmol/L (3.1 - 6.8) 21.6%

T4:T3 Ratio 4.846

Thyroglobulin Antibodies (TgAb) 146 IU/mL (≤ 115)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies (TPO) 219 IU/mL (≤ 34)

C-Reactive Protein (CRP) 1.07 mg/L (0 - 3) 35.7%

Folate - Serum 11.7 ug/L (>7)

Vitamin B12 >150 nmol/L (>37.5)

Vitamin D 77 nmol/L (50 - 250) 13.5%

Ferritin 46 ug/L (30 - 169) 11.5%

I also have Raynaud's. In terms of symptoms, I struggle with the following:

- Stomach pain every 6 months or so.

- bleeding gums, sore tongue, swollen lips, and sores on the side of my mouth (this has been happening on an off for a while - I have thought it was Vit B related however Oral surgeon mentioned this may be linked to a dry mouth).

- Dry skin and hair.

Thanks so much in advance!

Looking at previous post you had dose Levo inappropriately reduced

Now results show you need to increase dose Levo

Suggest you request 25mcg dose as “trial increase”

Ferritin is likely low BECAUSE of dose reduction in Levo

Folate also low

What B vitamins are you taking

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance

If you are currently taking a separate B12 you could reduce/stop this

Difference between folate and folic acid

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid supplements

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose and may need 2 per day and/or may need separate methyl folate couple times a week

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)

Thanks so much for this response! The Dr report from the blood tests suggest that the dose of Levo is correct...it all still feels like greek to me so would you mind explaining the reasoning why I may need to increase my Levo dose? Thanks so much!
