Hello, These are my Medichecks iron test results. My ferritin was 61 in January 25 (picked up on a thyroid test) and I have been supplementing with 3 Arrows iron to increase it. I stopped taking it 3 weeks before for this iron test. Also stopped B vits. My active B12 is at the high end of the range. I think my ferritin is still too low but am concerned about the high TS result.
Having done some research I think I have MTRFR gene mutation. I have CFS, allergies, asthma and other symptoms.
(I recently increased my ERFA on the advice of my functional Dr and it has helped : Recent Medichecks test compared to January:
T3 up from 3.7 to 5 (range3. 2-6.8)
T4 slightly lower 4.4 to 4.3 (range 12-22)
TSH lower 0.416 down from 0.752
(all tests done as advised here for NDT, biotin etc))
My questions are:
1.Should I be worried about the high TS result?
2.How do I increase Ferritin without potentially increasing TS and my iron levels, which are at the higher end?
3.Any advice on dealing with the MTHFR gene mutation would be welcome.
4. Would a more in depth iron test be worth it?
Thanks in advance.

Normal ferritin levels for women are between 20 and 200 ng/mL. According to some experts, ferritin levels of at least 40 ng/ml are required to stop hair loss, while levels of at least 70 ng/ml are needed for hair regrowth. The optimal ferritin level for thyroid function is between 90-110 ng/ml.

Serum Iron
Optimal : 55 to 70% of the range
Your result (78.5% through range) is a bit higher than optimal but not by a tremendous amount.
Yours (48%) is slightly over optimal, but not by much. Saturation can go up to 100% in people with iron overload or haemochromatosis and yours is nowhere near that so I wouldn't worry about it.
Ferritin
Your ferritin (24% or 102 with the range you've supplied) is in the optimal range with a result of 102. And there is a lot of leeway between your result and the top of range. So I wouldn't worry too much about your ferritin level.
Some people with MTHFR genes that don't work well for them might find that iron optimises more easily if they optimise their B12 and folate with methylated vitamins. They are listed in this link :
a great face book site to follow is the iron clinic. It’s chock full of very useful information. “The Iron Clinic”
Your levels look quite good, from my lay perspective. ( I have to get topped up with iron ( fereheme ) infusions about every two years. If ferritin goes below 50, it’s a shortage, if it gets around 35/40 it’s time to infuse. I’ve had it down to 12 and I feel dreadful.
It’s run by Prof Toby Richards team - he’s a vascular surgeon ( thoracic surgeon) at UCLH. I’ve been him for a vascular consult on Harley st., and his iron clinic is there as well. They do mobile clinics from time to time I think.
