I have had an unpleasant salty taste in my mouth for the last year. I have seen the dentist, ENT, neurologist, taste specialist, I’ve had blood tests, brain MRI and a lip biopsy. None of this has produced any answers. In the meantime I have been hypothyroid for the last nearly 30 years. I take levothyroxine 150mcg daily. My bloods are monitored regularly and I occasionally need to make small adjustments in dose. My T3 is on the low side but whenever I try to supplement with T3 I get headaches. Also tried armour thyroxine in the past which messed up my levels and also gave me a headache.
I haven’t seen a consultant for many years.
Questions are:
has anyone managed to resolve this taste issue?
could it be due to low T3? But I have always had this so why is my taste effected now?
Is there a good consultant in London that anyone can recommend that will consider taste changes as a symptom of thyroid disease?
thank you
