thyroid Nodules

Hi

I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism due to 2 ‘hot’ nodules in 2019.

I have been on Carbimazole since then. I take 7.5 mg a week.

I have been sent back to GP care as I will not agree to RAI

Can anyone tell me if it would be beneficial to me to try a gluten free diet to improve my thyroid health.

I am allowed 2 blood tests a year and my next one is due next month.

I also have thyroid induced tachycardia which makes my heart rate climb after eating and if I walk too quickly. A fast heart rate does worry me.

Thank you

Have you tested for gluten allergy?

Often if negative it’s worth trialling a strictly gluten diet as does reveal a gluten intolerance.

Gluten issues are more common with thyroid autoimmune. Is your nodule non autoimmune?

What antibodies have previously been tested? TPO, TG, TSI. TRab.

I’ve had them all tested previously my nodule is non-autoimmune & have always been negative.

How is your thyroid function levels & nutrients levels? If not optimal they can cause similar symtoms.

I am negative for any autoimmune. The nodules were overproducing leading to the hyperthyroidism.

I have not been tested for gluten allergy. I have consulted with a herbalist and she suggested reducing my gluten and sugar levels.

I take vitamins and have started Vitamin D again.

Thanks so much for reply.

hi Hugo interesting as I am waiting on a scan in the new year. Endocrinologist thinks I either have a nodule or possibly Graves as I have an autoimmune disorder. He keeps saying about radioactive iodine but I am not keen. He says I can stay on the carbimazole but there are risks involved in this. Having done some research myself I understand there is a big piece of research going on at present into new treatments for nodules in the uk at different centres. This one is about microwaves and the other is about radio waves.

I know not all nodules are suitable or which centres will accept people from out of area, but I will be exploring this further when I know what’s wrong with mine.

Hi

Lovely to hear your story. I’m going to look into radio frequency ablation for nodules. As you say may not be suitable but at least I would have tried.

Will let you know if I get any further information to share.

Good luck with your diagnosis

thanks that would be great.

From looking at it myself there are people in London, Kent, Portsmouth and a few other places doing it. Some are not taking referrals from out of area but others are. I have not found out yet who has to refer you, GP or consultant. Likely it will be GP?

Good luck

That is interesting as I live near Portsmouth! Will have to investigate! Probably GP in my case as the consultant sent me back to their care as I wouldn’t have RAI.

Thank you
