hi Hugo interesting as I am waiting on a scan in the new year. Endocrinologist thinks I either have a nodule or possibly Graves as I have an autoimmune disorder. He keeps saying about radioactive iodine but I am not keen. He says I can stay on the carbimazole but there are risks involved in this. Having done some research myself I understand there is a big piece of research going on at present into new treatments for nodules in the uk at different centres. This one is about microwaves and the other is about radio waves.
I know not all nodules are suitable or which centres will accept people from out of area, but I will be exploring this further when I know what’s wrong with mine.
Lovely to hear your story. I’m going to look into radio frequency ablation for nodules. As you say may not be suitable but at least I would have tried.
Will let you know if I get any further information to share.
From looking at it myself there are people in London, Kent, Portsmouth and a few other places doing it. Some are not taking referrals from out of area but others are. I have not found out yet who has to refer you, GP or consultant. Likely it will be GP?
That is interesting as I live near Portsmouth! Will have to investigate! Probably GP in my case as the consultant sent me back to their care as I wouldn’t have RAI.
