Hashimotos - Help interpreting bloods

Hi again,

Could you support me in understanding next steps following the below test results?

I was diagnosed with hashimotos in 2018. On 50mg of T4 since then. GP reckoned everything was normal. Since January this year I have been struggling very badly. 39yo male.

I am three weeks into starting on thybon henning t3 treatment, and a supplement called seriphos for phase 1 HPA dysregulation.

I was feeling awful. I have felt a little bit better each week for the last three weeks.

I had some additional blood tests completed to get a better picture of where my bloods are at.

Coeliac test = negative.

Pernicious anemia = negative.

Vitamin B12: 357 (range 206-1000)

Serum ferratin: 49.6 (range 23-393)

Folate Immunoassay: 20.3 (range 4.5-20)

Would I be correct in saying that the folate is high because I am deficient in B12?

I will start taking a B12 supplement (methylcobalamin), to increase B12 levels.

Iron studies -

Iron: 13 (range 14-31)

UIBC: 42 (range 20-66)

TIBC: 55 (range 50-80)

Transferrin sat: 24% (range 30-40%)

All results seem to be quite low.....

I am not sure what to do with the iron study results......any advice would be most welcome.

Thank you,

Luke

Hi, sorry you’ve had no replies. I suggest that you post again asking soecifically about iron supplementation methods. There are some experts on the forum. I’m not one as I tend to having too much iron!

Glad your starting on Thybon Henning, what dose are you taking. Your 50 mcg of T4 would seem much too low on its own.

Hope you get better replies next time

Thank you Berteills.

I started on 5mg of T3, increasing by 5mg every 5 days. I'm up to 25 per day now, 10 in the morning, 10 in the afternoon, 5 at night.

Most of my aunts have thyroid issues. They all seemed to issues converting T4 to T3, so are all in some form of combination treatment. I had never gotten my T3 levels tested until this year.....my GP has refused to do it. My T4 was top of range, and my T3 was bottom of range.

I'll repost my question with a more specific subject line.

Thank you,

Luke

Ideally, T3 should be taken with food to slow down absorption. And you need to carry out tests lasting up to 3 months to find the right dose. You have to stick to the schedule. For example, I take 6.25 mcg every 3 hours. At bedtime I take T3 and T4. That way my pulse and temperature are perfect. When I started, I took too much T3, which made me feel very unwell. You have to take the right dose. In addition, the conversion of T4 into T3 in the liver requires sugar and selenium, so don't hesitate to eat seafood often.

The dose of T3 must always be the same; you cannot take 10 mcg twice and 5 mcg once. You can, for example, divide the tablet into 4 doses. For me, 10 mcg is too high a dose and it makes me ill. I wouldn't worry too much about iron, most of us have too much, and it's mainly stored in the cells, which is the cause of many illnesses.

Thanks for that. My problem, or part of it, is that my iron results are really low. I am not sure what to do about that.

I went a GP who specialises in thyroid disorders. The titration schedule for starting the t3 was: start with 5mg in the morning for five days. On day 6 add another 5mg 6 hours after morning dose for another 5 days. On day 11 add another 5mg in the evening (total of 15mg a day). That is 3 doses of a quarter of a tablet. Next it is half a tablet in the morning, quarter in the afternoon, quarter at night. Then half, half, quarter. Etc. If I start to feel symptoms of over dosing I back off.

Not sure if that is similar to how others have started.

I think it's a very strange way of taking T3, as you need the same dosage all day long. I take 6, 25 mcg every 3 hours at a fixed time, but it's individual for each person. You need to keep an eye on your pulse and temperature. As for iron, don't worry, lots of people would like to get rid of it and donate blood to do so. You're not a vegan I hope? You eat red meat, does that contain iron?

Not what you're looking for?
