Iron and t4/t3 update

Thanks for everyone here for educating me, I have managed to get my iron levels to a higher levels they may have ever been! I'm so pleased and hopefully they'll continue going up. I have used the Heme iron recommended by many here.

It's been one year since I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and I'm now on 12.5mch of Levo and 60mcg of Liothyronine a day, and feel the best I have in 4 years (since I fell pregnant with my daughter). I don't tolerate levothyroxine well and feel rubbish on anything over 25mcg, but I tried to remove it altogether and my air hunger came back almost immediately. So this balance is working really well for me. My latest test results showed a pretty non existent TSH, a very low t4 and t3 just over the range. My consultant is happy to keep me on my current medication as I feel so good as long as I don't have heart palpitations (which I don't) inw which case he said to reduce the t3 to 50mcg a day. I think I am very lucky to have found such a good endo.

I have started eating a ketogenic diet as I have been doing a lot of research and there is a firm link between thyroid issues and insulin resistance. I'm 6kg down in one month. This is a very restrictive diet and is not for everyone but is working very well for me.

I have also been able to come off my antidepressants for the first time since I had my daughter, I firmly believe my depression was thyroid linked as it went as soon as my t3 levels increased.

I am not sure why I am sharing but hopefully it might help someone else!

It is very helpful when members do come back and explain their journeys. Thank you for doing so.

Do make sure you keep on top of your iron levels into the future. One of the very common stories is of people who have done extremely well in raising iron and then just wander off, stop or reduce supplementation, and don't test. Unfortunately, they then come back in shock at how iron deficient they have become.
