I've just received the results for my blood test today.
TSH: 3.46
T4: 11.5 (7.86 - 14.41)
Serum Iron: 14.7 umol/L (8.8-27)
Serum Transferrin: 2.9 g/L (2.2 -4)
Percentage Iron Saturation: 22%
Serum TIBC: 65 umol/L (45 - 70)
RBC: 4.89 (3.8 - 5.8)
From my research online, it seems my iron saturation is only just within the range, otherwise quite low. My TIBC is within range, but on the high side, especially for females. They did not re-test ferritin, but this was previously just below 30 at 26.
Can anyone help me interpret what this all means?
Medichecks said "Often, at the beginning of iron deficiency anaemia, your ferritin levels may be low but your iron levels are normal; this is because in early anaemia, your body will deplete the iron stores first, whilst iron levels will still be sufficient" - so I'm guessing maybe this is what's happening.
Surprised to see my TSH has come down and t4 in a good place considering how crap i've felt and only on 25mcg of Levothyroxine. I wasn't actually meant to have the thyroid markers done today, the 8 week post starting meds is in another 2 weeks but looks like they've done them by mistake.

I have/had this too. Ferritin low and iron near to or normal. Posted a bit about it way back.
It’s called Iron deficiency without anaemia. IDWA.
Symptoms are similar to anaemia without being anaemic.
Treatment is similar to anaemia.
In the reading I did, it said women in particular should have the root cause explored as if no heavy menstruation it’s important to check health of GI tract to identify source of blood loss.
I did eating liver twice a week, heme supplements from Amazon, got ferritin to about 60 but still felt awful. Tried iron biglycinate and didn’t do much.
The rather fabulous internet shopper/supplement sniffer outer extraordinaire TiggerMe got me onto Three Arrows Heme Iron Repair from the US. significantly stronger than anything else and sorted me right out. They’ve recently improved their buyer experience on their website so you no longer have to deal with what we used to, it was the most awful website ever. I almost miss it 🤣 takes a few weeks to come but it does come and they have delivery tracking. 🌱
Ps if you don’t take heme and take a regular iron supplement, everything you eat /drink (before and after) for hours has an impact on absorption. Especially herbal tea, regular tea/coffee, cocoa, chocolate you name it. So go heme… totally unaffected by any of that and gentle on the tum 👏🌱
Hi Regenallotment sorry to gate crash this post but very interested in the research you have done on this (IDWA) as I am exploring similar. Can you point me in the direction of any key reading please? 🙏
