Looking for a substitute for NP Thyroid/Armor Thyroid in Europe

Hello all,

I am currently in Europe running out of options to refill my NP Thyroid medication. From what I have found online, Armor Thyroid is an equivalent, and after asking my US Doctor, he said it should be ok to take.

I have tried via Roseway labs but, not being a UK citizen, the doctor isn't sure about giving me a prescription without first visiting a UK doctor or practitioner. Unfortunately I am not from the UK, so I don't know how feasible it is to get said appointment.

While Eutirox would help with T4, I would still be missing the T3 that Armor would offer, and I'm also not sure of the amount I should take (unfortunately, my old hormone doctor in the US is not being very helpful with this either).

Does anyone have any experience in how to obtain either T3 on its own or a version of NP Thyroid/Armor that I could take? I am running low on supplies and trying to stretch it out as much as possible. Is it possible at all to get it in Europe OTC? Or do I need a prescription.

I am currently located in Spain, if that helps.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance

Afraid I do not know what might be possible, but they are NOT available in Spain.

The Spanish medicines site (which allows you to switch to English) shows everything that is licensed.

cima.aemps.es/

I think you will not find liothyronine whether spelled in the Spanish way liotironina or in English.

Note: The product is Armour Thyroid (nowadays from AbbVie) - which has a "u" in it. Only pointing this out in case you are searching and do not find it due to this. We all know what you mean!

Below leads you to my desiccated thyroid document which contains every product I know of.

There have been several similar or related questions here. You can find them by using this search link:

helvella's medicines documents (UK and Rest of the World) can be found here:

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines

helvella has created, and tries to maintain, documents containing details of all thyroid hormone medicines in the UK and, in less detail, many others around the world. There is now a specific world desiccated thyroid document.

I highly recommend viewing on a computer screen, or a decent sized tablet, rather than a phone. Even I find it less than satisfactory trying to view them on my phone.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines - UK

The UK document contains up-to-date versions of the Summary Matrixes for levothyroxine tablets, oral solutions and also liothyronine available in the UK. Includes descriptions of tablet markings which allow identification. Latest updates include all declared ingredients for all UK products and links to Patient Information Leaflets, etc.

helvella - World Desiccated Thyroid

Contains details of all known desiccated thyroid products.

helvella - Thyroid Hormone Medicines - RotW

Contains details of all levothyroxine, liothyronine and combination products - excluding desiccated thyroid products. Details available vary by country and manufacturer.

The link below takes you to a blog page which has direct links to the documents from Dropbox and QR codes to make it easy to access from phones. You will have to scroll down or up to find the link to the document you want.

Thank you for this! I was just checking one of your documents when you replied.

It seems Armour Thyroid is the only possibility. The problem is now obtaining a prescription to fill...

So how do people in Europe supplement T3 if they need it? Do people in Spain just not take T3 at all?

I think it is difficult if you are in a European country that does not have an authorised product. Germany, France, Spain, Italy, etc., simply need a prescription.

It appears at least theoretically possible for it to be obtained by a special import.

Afraid I do not know the laws regarding personal importation into Spain.

As you are not living in the US, maybe you can import without prescription from a legitimate US pharmacy, like many here in the UK do.

Your post might attract a PM from the scammers that lurk here so I am just posting our standard warning that you would be wise to take note of.

Scammers are joining the forum on a very regular basis and messaging members with their assertions that they have successfully purchased xyz medication from zyx source.

First, do check the profile of the member that sent you the message. (You can find their profile by searching for their name in the member list here healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Are they a long term member with an active forum posting history? (Just be cautious and check with admin)

Or are they a recently joined member with little or no posting history? (Do be very suspicious and check with admin)

**** Scammers even join our forum and post a 'fake' story about their thyroid journey, that includes mention of self sourcing their thyroid meds. This is to encourage members to ask them where they purchase their medication without prescription.****

Once you have what you think may be a genuine recommendation, you are strongly encouraged to message an Admin to ask whether the admin team have any feedback on the source you've been given.

Please also tell admin the member name/s that messaged you so that we can check them out if necessary.

Admins are not allowed to recommend sources, but we can tell you what, if any, feedback we've received about the source you've been given.

⚠️ Don't part with your much needed money until you are as sure as you can be that the source is genuine.
