I have been having excessive thirst and peeing a lot. I have also been very tired. But I was recently in hospital with asthma. I had to have steroids again.
I have been checked for diabetes and it’s not that, even though I have a lot of the symptoms.
Some renal blood tests are off, as well as a urine test. The doctor said it could be my thyroid or cortisol levels (because of the steroids).
I’m having a thyroid blood test, as well as one for cortisol, on Wednesday 6th March.
Can an over active thyroid cause these symptoms? Even if it’s only just over?
Thank you very much!

Currently (July 2023), I am on 100mcg T4 and 10mcg T3.
Are you still on same dose?
Always same brand of levothyroxine and T3?
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
T3 ….day before test split T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day, with last dose approximately 8-12 hours before test
Sorry - I should have said the dose. Yes, I’m still on that. Another symptom is my brain doesn’t seem to work properly!!
I took the test as per instructions here.
I hadn’t had steroids in November but had two lots in December and one in February (when I was in hospital). The February steroids were for seven days.
