h pylori treatment

hello

I’d like to hear from anyone who has successfully eradicated helicobacter pylori with either a natural or antibiotic protocol.

I’m on low dose NDT with Dr Frey and have thyroid nodules (biopsy tested benign)

Tested positive for h pylori via a breath test in October and was offered quadruple abx therapy. I didn’t think my delicate gut could withstand 10 days abx (plus i think over prescription of abx in the past has contributed to problem). instead got a book called H Pylori Rescue Guide from amazon and did a month of mastic gum/DGL licorice/ s. boulardii then a month of matula tea. Before that I did 14 days of Toxaprevent H Pylori protocol but it didn’t do much for me.

here i am 3 months later still with a messy gut (alternating diarrhoea/constipation) and alternate days of very bad nausea. Have a SIBO test, abdominal scan and endoscopy/colonoscopy lined up. I’ve also considered a GI Map stool test but this is difficult to organise where I live.

i was operated on for peritonitis 13 years ago so am also considering ileocecal valve issues.

I’m in rural France and its difficult to get good functional doctors. I’d have to return to London for that. Many thanks for your input.

I had h.pylori some years ago. It was successfully treated with the “triple therapy”. I can’t remember exactly what meds were prescribed but think it was 2 different antibiotics and a PPI.

I remember still having symptoms about 6 weeks later and was referred for a gastroscopy. That was fine apart from excess stomach acid, a course of Omeprazole helped that. H. Pylori eradicated.

Incidentally this investigation led to my diagnosis of hypothyroidism.

I do believe the antibiotics are most effective.

I tried many natural things . Eventually spoke to a great herbalist who has practised for over 40 years . She said take antibiotics plus a few remedies at same time and after taking .Combination worked and never been bothered since

Don't know if she is still taking patients but imagine her practise still going .

I spoke to her on phone so no need for visit. Remedies sent.

Let me know if you would like her info.

My husband has a H pylori diagnosis & was able to clear it eating lots of high strength Manuka honey. Holland & Barrett have many high strength ones & often offers especially if you buy online. The very high strength is expensive but it worked for him. Have it at the end of every meal & in warm water between meals. Not good for teeth or blood sugar but good for the stomach.

Cider vinegar could help too. If you’re hypo your stomach acid is likely to be low. Omeprazole will make it lower. The symptoms of low stomach acid are the same as too high & it’s often misdiagnosed.

Thank you. How did your husband know he was cleared? By breath or stool testing or just lack of symptoms?

Hello, I have just been diagnosed with H.Pylori and would also be interested in having the name of a good herbalist. Thank you

Hi Martina

I haven't found anything that works yet but am currently consulting with ibsclinics in London. I've done a GI Map stool test with them and a sibo breath test which was positive. Also a colonoscopy and endoscopy and waiting for results. Endoscopy showed gastritis, gastro enterologist thinks as a result of h.pylori. According to the results of GI Map the consultant at ibsclinics thinks there is low stomach acid, low digestive enzymes and the h.pylori is still there despite trying matula tea, mastic gum and Toxaprevent.

The GI Map was expensive but shows all the different virulence strains of h.pylori. thankfully the one i have is not too virulent but still doesnt want to go away. I'm quite tempted by the quadruple abx therapy my gastro enterologist will no doubt want me to do when I see her because even if it trashes my guts temporarily I can do a gut repair protocol afterwards. the problem with all the natural therapies is they don't always work and you have to do them for a long time, and take large quantities of them. Am not a big fan of abx but really got to the point I just want to get on with my life and have a properly functioning digestive system without risk of ulcers in future. However I will have a consultation with ibsclinics to see what their natural protocol is, if not too onerous/lengthy I may try it.

if you do decide to try abx route I would avoid the triple or quadruple therapy containing amoxycilline because this can lead to clostridium difficile overgrowth which is nasty. my sister did an early type of triple therapy and got c.difficile and ended up having to have a faecal transplant... so I def don't want to have that happen. the quadruple that my doc is suggesting is called Pylera and doesnt contain amoxycilline

the only herbal treatment that I haven't tried yet is Apex Energetics HPLR and gastro ULC which contain lots of anti microbials like oregano, goldenseal, oregon grape, chinese goldthread, bismuth etc You need a proper naturopath or functional doctor to prescribe this and its only available to buy on specialist supplement websites.

I hope this helps. its been a very long road for me since getting a positive breath test last October and I hope it isnt for you. good luck

Hello, Thank you SO much for all the useful inofrmation you have kindly given me and I apologize for this late reply. My nutritionist told me that the underlying cause for H. Pylori is often SIBO and she recommended I should have a breath test aswell. I see that Toxaprevent have a H. Pylory pack containing also Pylopass: did you try that?

I'm sure I also have low stomach acid and not enough digestive enzymes.

Thank you for pointing out which antibiotics I should avoid. I appreciate that with natural therapies, it takes a long time to heal, but I also read that antibiotics aren't always effective at eradicating H. Pylori and it might be necessary to have more courses of antibiotics.

Is it possible to do the GI Map test in the UK or is the tube sent to the US?

I hope we will find a way out of this digestive problem. Take good care of yourself

yes i did the Toxaprevent protocol but slightly differently to take account of thyroid medication. It didn’t do it for me.

There are many places that do the GI Map. I did mine with ibs clinics whilst in London but i think it may have been sent to the US. There’s also a test called GI Ecologix. I wanted one that showed the different strains of h.pylori. Healthpath also do stool tests but with different names. I recommend you do one which includes a consultation afterwards.

I have tested positive for methane sibo which complicates the picture. Sibo doesn’t like probiotics. But of course if you do the quadruple abx therapy you’re going to want to heal your gut afterwards..

Good luck

it was a few years ago & I’m a bit hazy about the details but I remember that he was experiencing ulcer type pain after eating. His doctor agreed that it was likely that he had developed an ulcer & H pylori causes ulcers. He decided to try the honey & the pain went.

I don’t think there were breath tests etc then! It might be an old wives tale (I’m 65!) but it might be worth a try. If you Google there are medical research papers on the subject.

Research Mastic Gum, that claims able to kill the H.P bacteria. Actually it’s very good for stomach problems, I keep some in the cupboard and buy it in capsule form from Amazon.

I took 6 capsules/day of Allergy Research Group Mastic capsules for a month together with NAC (biofilm breaker). That’s 3g a day. I ended up feeling like i could taste it/smell it all the time. But thats what the H Pylori rescue book on amazon recommended. I think that dose is too high and i don’t think it worked

Many years ago I had symptoms of stomach pain and was tested for H Pylori by the NHS. The test was positive and I was prescribed antibiotics. Like you, my digestive system was compromised and I didn't want to make it worse. I found Matula Tea online and ordered a course for me and my husband, because I'd read online that H Pylori could be passed from person to person. A couple of months later I had another NHS test and got the all clear. I didn't tell the doctor what I'd done. Hope this helps.

thank you. When you say NHS test do you mean breath test? Stool test?

Both tests were stool tests. My GP said that was the best way of checking for it.
