impact on thyroid after 3 rounds of triple therapy for h pylori

Hi,

I’ve been through 3 rounds of triple therapy for H-pylori and I feel it’s really impacted my hypothyroidism as my symptoms are all at a very high level at the moment and I’m exhausted when I wake up and again by the end of the day. I’m currently on month 3 of ferrous fumerate tablets as I had a very low level of iron and was suffering iron deficiency anaemia due to the impact of the H-pylori. In addition, I am also taking Omepraole 20mg twice a day. My doctor says my thyroid blood test is within range so won’t take this into consideration.

Has anyone else had their thyroid impacted following this treatment, and if so, what did you do?

thank you

Can you share your thyroid blood test results with us? When GPs say ‘normal’ or ‘within range’ this may not be the same as ‘optimal’, where you feel most well.

my blood test result is Serum TSH level 3.91 U/mL [0.38 - 5.33]

TSH should always be under 2, with many members here reporting they feel best when TSH falls closer to/ under 1. Were FT4 and FT3 tested?

What dose of Levothyroxine are you currently taking? Highly likely you will need an increase to improve adverse symptoms.

No FT3 and FT4 weren’t tested.

My dose is 25mg.

your TSH is too high , optimal treatment on levo should be aiming to keep TSH below 2/2.5 ~ have a look through these two , hopefully you can use them to persuade GP that a trial increase of levothyroxine to see it if improves symptoms, will do no harm :

Hi yes i went through one round of triple therapy and it was tough going. Have you had to go through 3 rounds in one go or spread out in time? I think it can wipe out the stuff we want gone but can also wipe out some of the good stuff too.

I’ve been through 3 lots of separate triple therapy over a 6 month period and agree that it depletes your body. In my case I feel it’s badly affected my thyroid
