My husband had a routine yearly blood test check from gp and I was looking through the results as I always do, and see that his TSH was good at 1.868 (0.57-3.6) but his T4 was 8.6 (7.9-14.0). Looking back to his last years results the T4 has gone down a little bit. He 64 and is quite fit and healthy but is a bit fatigued and can fall asleep anywhere. I was wondering if we should investigate further. I would hate to miss a thyroid problem if it us indeed underactive.

Husband results
Request GP test his vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Plus thyroid antibodies
Or test privately including Ft3 as well
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Thanks for all the info. I'm getting him to ask the Dr first for the vitamin checks and Monitor my health for thyroid panel and go from there.
How did things go for hubby ? My husband was diagnosed very late - in his 70's...
We're working to get vitamin levels optimal then will retest to see if levels have changed. I'm absolutely sure he needs medicating so will see if the NHS agrees otherwise I will suggest he goes private.
Following on from the above conversation, my husband has been supplementing all vitamins for the past 3 months so hopefully they're good. Still waiting for new iron panel but ferritin was good last time. New MMH blood results including FT3:
Tsh. 1.57mu/L. [0.27-4.2]
Ft4. 12.6pmol/L [12-22]
FT3 5pmol/L. [3.1-6.8]
Negative Tpo antibodies
I was wondering why of t4 is so low in range, why is t3 highish?
His symptoms are still sleepy and much body aches, and gets so much colder than he used to. High cholesterol even on statins.
Not sure whether to ask for dose of levo or not.
Yes we did. It was suggested last time that it could be Central hypothyroidism. As this has come back with similar results it possibly is a pituitary problem. Can a gp do pituitary tests or ask for a scan or does it have to be an endo.
