Hi Joanne, can you add the ranges? Generally, your T4 looks low but the FT3 looks high but without ranges, impossible to know. Everyone has reverse T3 because T4 has to become either free T3 or reverse T3. This is gives the adrenal gland control over how much energy goes where or held in reserve.

I am having some difficulty in getting my range above 10.8 Free T 4 the range here in the uk is i believe 10-22mpul i have been upped from 25mcg a day to 100mcg levothyroxine and my level came up .2 (POINT 2!!) is that normal, or do you think i need to change my brand of thyroid meds?

Hi Blossom, it does take time for the whole process to take affect. Your T4 goes to the liver into storage and later becomes FT3 or reverse T3 depending on other factors like your ferritin level and your adrenal glands produce cortisol which also affects how much becomes FT3 which them has to enter cells and go to receptors. Your levothyroxine has a half life of two weeks but as you take your pill it begins to build up blood levels slowly so you may not notice the change until you have taken that dose for a month. Personally I like an NDT but the UK prefers to put everyone on Levo. I don't think the brand is necessarily the problem. You may just need more time.

JoanneConnor,

FT4 is often quite low when taking T3 or NDT. You haven't included ranges but your FT3 is high and possibly over range. If so, you should reduce dose by 1/4 to 1/2 grain. If you want FT4 higher you could reduce NDT further and add some Levothyroxine.

You will need to test rT3 to see whether it is high. Blue Horizon and Genova do rT3 tests thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Sorry I'm taking thyroid s and my dose is 240 (4 tablets). I was previously on 250 levothyroxine

Tsh should be 0.30-5.00

T3 should be 3.1-6.8

T4 should be 11.5-22.0

Worried about rt3 because I also have high cortisol and have been on every diet and not lost a pound, only other thing the weight could possibly is mucin (myexadema)

I am on very low carb diet at the minute

I'm seeing the endo tomorrow I'm hoping he will check my rt3

Not what you're looking for?
