I was recently increased to 88mcg of synthroid 5 weeks ago. 4 weeks post increase tsh 9 range(.05-4.5). I missed a dose of synthroid last week and have felt horrible since. Can anyone tell me if this is possible. Endo wants me to wait 4 more weeks for blood tests due to my sensitivity of increasing synthroid

hello yes it’s possible if you’re sensitive to dosage. I think you will need to wait it out though and hope it settles. Get a few early nights in and treat yourself as if you have a bit of a cold. Don’t overdo anything and see if your body relaxes a bit?

Well, it amazes me at times as some 'professionals' seem to know little about how to diagnose /treat a patient who has hypothyroidism.

My TSH was 100 and GP told me I had no problems!. I cried as I felt very unwell.

Don't worry as I believe our bodies dictate what is helpful or not. I believe the experts have been told not to diagnose hypothyroidism if TSH is under 100.

My GP has also made two stupid comments to me and I told him 'I'm sorry doctor but that's incorrect'.

p.s. if you want to read how I was finally diagnosed click on my name and it will take you to my page.

Some things we read we would never have imagined that some GPs seem ignorant about anything to do with a struggling thyroid gland.

I am fine now thanks to Thyroiduk (before healthunlocked was introduced) and I hope you will soon be symptom-free.

any elevated TSH level can cause symptoms. Weirdly the ‘number’ doesn’t always correlate to symptoms. Some people with slight elevation can be very symptomatic but others with very over range numbers not so much. How we respond to our thyroid going kaput is a very individual thing and if you’re feeling unwell with symptoms then you are. I’m sorry your Endo is not more helpful. Hoping you settle soon x

If you are under-dosed, missing a dose likely will have a more significant effect than if you were adequately dosed (or even sightly over-dosed).

I have a mental image of a climber. If you make a mistake when on the steep/vertical part you can fall a long way before your rope holds. But if you have reached the top of the hill, a minor trip is not so significant. :-)

Not a good analogy, but somehow always pops into my mind.

But, it's not the TSH itself that causes the symptoms. TSH doesn't make you feel anything whether it's high or low. It's T3 that causes symptoms, when too high or too low - and, to a certain extent, T4 - does he test either of those? If your TSH is 9, then they are likely to be very low. He doesn't sound very knowledgeable.

I just saw that my synthroid expired 10 days ago. I have been taking it daily. My pharmacy says it is no good to take. Endo says expiration doesn’t matter. I need solid advice on who to believe

I don't take levo, but at times I've taken T3 a couple of years old, with no ill effects, and apparently no loss of potency.

I can't remember all the details but the American army once did some research that revealed that the majority of medications, if properly packed and stored, are good for several years after the expiry date. So, 10 days is really nothing to worry about. :)
