Missed big dose of hypothyroid meds

I had meds bottles in a certain order in my bathroom, so I would just feel in the dark and grab the middle bottle for my thyroid meds. My teen girls accidentally moved them around and I was taking a simple bladder med instead of my thyroid meds. I noticed I felt weak, ears are ringing, feel like really bad. So I checked in the light this morning. I could have missed my thyroid meds by a couple weeks or more. If I start taking them again I should start to feel better right? I feel so stupid.

just in case you already took it, id wait until next dose is due (whenever you normally take) and ensure you have them in order. I think youd feel fine soon after

A torch may be a good idea!

I take mine in the early hours and put them in a bottle lid by the side of the bed; I don’t even have to open my eyes to reach them and the glass of water on the bedside cupboard.

Why on earth grope around in the dark, if you have various medications shelved together then it could be downright dangerous!

For heavens sake put the light on.

I hope someone actually answers your question instead of chording you when you already feel upset and ill. Maybe call 111 and get advise?

I have a small 100ml sports cap bottle of water next to my bed (maybe keep in a drawer if you have young children). And tablets in a week’s container.

I don’t think you’ll feel better straight away. They take time to build up sometimes. Like when you first started. But hopefully you haven’t been too long without.

Feel better soon.

You are right....knuckles duly smacked!!

Maybe being linked to a long family line of pharmacists with strict rules about care/use of meds caused my reaction.

Apologies Momduck85 ....speedy recovery

A weekly pill dispenser is afar better idea

That way you organise dispenser when fully awake

Can see if you forgot to take one night too (easily done)

I think it could take a few days, maybe even a week or two to start feeling better. But it won't do you any harm. Treat yourself gently for a while, as without your hormone the body will be exhausted!

A little point is that bathrooms aren't ideal places to keep any meds, with steam and water around. Thyroid meds in particular are quickly damaged by water in the air. It's one of those weird things that medicine cabinets are so often in the bathroom, but its the worst place in the house to have them.

Good place to keep the Band Aids, though.

My thyroid meds sit on my bedside table.

Maybe split your dose for a few days - in two or three doses, if this doesn't interfere with supplements etc - while your body gets used to medication again?
