Dessicated Thyroid dose

Hello

I have a tsh of 4 and it seems like when I reach 1 grain of dessicated thyroid I get uncomfortable and maybe hyper. What dose do you think someone should be at with this tsh? I feel like my comfort zone is half grain. I'm a male at about 190 lbs decent health. Any insight would be appreciated.

And I know I should have free t3 and free t4 tested etc.. But my doc won't do that. I have had some success with dessicated thyroid, but trying to find my optimal level.

If the doc wont look after you, you are probably going to have to do it yourself......

Here are details of private testing where you deal direct with the lab.....

That's what I am attempting to do based off of symptoms. Thanks for the info.

Maybe the brand of desiccated thyroid you're taking doesn't agree with you and you need to change to a different one. If you're confused about whether your symptoms mean you're on the wrong dose, it's a good idea to get your FT4 and FT3 tested. That can help to make sense of things.

Thiroyd from Thailand. I've been On it for a while and the lower doses were OK, I thought maybe I was just out of the norm and didn't need a high dose.

I take 4 grains and was on 5 never felt hyper but did when I took a small dose of NDT 1 grain with t3. Defiantly check your levels out though.

How severe is your hypothyroidism? Mind sharing your initial tsh levels, t3 or t4? What range should the free t3 and t4 be in in general?

in reply toarodg44

My thyroid almost doesn't function at all. It just doesn't produce much t4 at all and went well below any range to the point there was hardly any at all in my system, same with t3 but my t3 was a touch higher. But strangely enough I convert to t3 really well. I don't have the results at hand but I posted it on another post about the nhs recently, but it has many replies. Think my tsh reached 40. But my tsh took years to rise and my t4 was low for years and I felt awful. I find I feel best when my t4 is at the top of the range and my t3 is slightly over but everyone is different. Most people feel best when their levels are near the top unless they have adrenal things going on also. I also take thiroyd and find its really good for me. It is all trial and error though. Everyone is different.

That's also what I've been thinking could be the problem. I do half grain in the AM and half grain in the afternoon. Should I go down to a lower dose for longer? While my adrenals heal? Or tough it out until my body adjusts to it. I am not severe hypo just borderline hypo, still have my thyroid gland. Thanks so much!

It may be worth trying different NDT brands. I have down well on Thyro -Gold. But not so well on WP.

Interested in thyrogold. I've heard about it, does it have active t3 and t4? What dose do you take. I'll continue this for a while and if not luck I may change to something else.

I take Thyroid S and only take 1.75 grains for 3 days then 2 on the third and then repeat. I went up to 3 grains at first but then started to drop down as FT3 was over and I now feel very happy on this dose. You really need to save up for a FT3 result to really know what is happening.

When I was still on Levo I found I wasn't converting well and increased my bits etc and added a few others in and got pretty good improvenebtvthough not quite there so went back to NDT as was started on that about 30 years ago as I'd heard there was a little more T3 in it than was recommended. Don't know if that right but I fitted with what I thought I needed and it's worked out for me.

Not what you're looking for?
