Doctors UK who treat Hypothyroidism with NDT/Armour pref in sussex aread

Hi

in my 50's, have been hypo for 15 years (and monitor my B12, Vit D etc to make sure they are the right levels, not just 'normal' low range). Also worked with naturopaths, acupuncutrists etc over the years. I had a friend in US who thrived on Armour, and as I am UK based, in Sussex, i am really trying to find a good GP through recommendation who straddles mainstream medicine with alternatives BUT also treats (on private perscription) the T3 ... Although I received the list from this site, couldnt find anyone who ticks these boxes in the Sussex area. Or someone who is not to far to travel too (I dont have a car).

all suggestions SOOOO welcome.

thank you

We are not allowed to make recommendations on the open forum here. It has to be by private message as was explained in your previous post.

Sometimes with a bit of tweaking to your current hormone replacement its possible to get things right with Levo only which is much simpler.

Completing your profile helps people to get to now you better. Click on your picture top right of screen to do that.

What were your latest blood results?

Armour is very expensive over here and only available privately. Adding T3 helps many people that dont convert well.

Hi thanks Jadyee

sorry i was just trying to work out how to reply on previous messages and navigate the site properly. I put some info on my profile so hope that is visible. Im having bloods next week, so will post updated results. but last Nov my TSH was high at 19, T4 lowish 13.4 They never tested my T3. currently on 125mg's Levothyroxine Brand accord 100mgs and 25mgs are Mercury pharma. Ferritin was 100, Vit D 70, B12 348, Zinc 15... Also have had Hashimotos for years. havent had that tested but last time a few years ago it was greater than 600 (that was back in 2020). I am just desperate to find someone who will do a full profile and know how to tweak things. My GP its just all over the place with him although he is nice. My CRP last time was also slightly high. I put on 2 stone in weight over the pandemic and havent managed to shift that extra weight yet which I am sure might be a reason why my body hasnt worked well with the levo..who knows.

If your TSH was 19 in November then you have a long way to go with Levo before thinking about if you convert well and if you really need something with or T3 added. I hope your dose was increased after that?

Do you always take Levo on an empty stomach 1hour away from food or caffeine drinks?

I'm in West Sussex, know what the NHS Endo's are like around these parts and I see a private Endo for prescribed T3. NDT is very frowned upon by the NHS in the UK even if privately sourced. Also expensive and not easy to get hold of.

Your B12 looks on the low side. What are you supplementing it with?

You need a folate result.

Cannot see any information in your profile.

Hi Jaydee... they had me on 150mgs last year then reduced to 125mgs. Will see what next round of bloods come back with. yes I always take levo in morning without having food for at least an hour on waking. I also take sublingually rather than swallowing for better release. B12 is mid range. Thanks for mentioning Folate. will see if they can check that for me too otherwise will go privately ...

Quite a few on the list from Thyroid U.K. do consultations on zoom

Before booking any consultation get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done yourself as it’s cheaper and no point having consultation without up to date results

TSH, Ft4, Ft3, both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies

Vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Do you have autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

Approx how old are you

Pre or Post menopause

Do you have recent results and ranges you can add

Hi there...thanks. I put info on my profile as overview. Im mid 50's. Yes I also have Hashimotos (my TPO done many years ago was crazily high and confirmed the Hashimotos. Waiting to have bloods in next few weeks so will share results (As i have seen others doing) once I get them from my GP. thanks for your feedback. If only GP's would also look at these forums ;-)

thanks am having some of those tests booked with GP for next week, but will get the TPO and TG privately. I did have hashimotos diagnosed years ago as have been hypo for 15 years. Im now 57

If you know you have Hashimoto’s already, you don’t really need antibodies retesting

Though it can be interesting to test antibodies periodically, especially if changing to gluten free or dairy free diet…..as antibodies often diminish after diet changes

GP unlikely to get Ft3 tested …..even if GP request, lab will usually refuse

Can you get a referral to East Surrey Hospital in Redhill? I know of one there who would see you on the NHS then prescribe privately for you. He also sees private patients in two other places in Sussex and uses Zoom. He is on TUK's list. However your GP would not necessarily continue prescribing for you and you could end up paying forever, which is not the best solution.
