Hi everyone
I've now been in remission since summer of last year. But recently I've started getting itching on my body.
Has anyone experienced this before?
I see this is your first post and I’m not 100% sure you’ve posted in the right forum?
This one is for thyroid issues.
Correct group
I've been off the thyroid meds for a year now
But now I'm experiencing itching
Has anyone been off the meds due to the thyroid not needing the meds and had some strange things happening
I had Awful Itching before I was diagnosed with thyroid issues. There is definitely a connection. I was diagnosed with papilary cancer. After the TT I was dosed with T4 and the itching stopped. If I'm reading correctly you were on thyroid meds . Can I ask you why you stopped taking them?
Thanks for getting back to meSorry to hear
I stopped taking them because my thyroid issues went into remission
I went for a period of not taking them and the numbers were look good so I was told let's test every x month then we test yearly
If anything that I learned with my Thyroid Journey. Is that even if your in Range that's Not Be All.
please give some more context
What were you originally diagnosed as ….hypo or hyper
What were you taking, what dose and how long for
When were thyroid and vitamin levels last tested
I was hypo for 1 and a bit years then became hyper
Taking nothing now apart from mutli vits
Levels were normal and no further action was needed
Welcome to the forum.
Which 'meds' were you taking?
What was your diagnosis?
If you are hypo you cannot just come off 'meds', They are for life.
So I was hypo and was taking levo then became hyperThen started taking hyper drugs carbim
Then from the results it looked like It was going into remission
So went for a period with no meds to see
And the results were showing that thyroid was OK without the meds.
Thyroid conditions, including both hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism, can cause skin changes, including itchiness, dryness, and discoloration. Autoimmune disorders such as Graves' disease and Hashimoto's disease, in which the immune system targets the thyroid, often coincide with itchy skin.
If I was you, I would run a full thyroid test looking at TSH, T4 and T3 as well as thyroid peroxidase (TPO) and thyroglobulin (Tg) antibodies. This way you can get a clearer picture of where your thyroid hormones currently are and if your levels are low, you may have to start supplementing again.
Thanks for the aboveWill probs get rested soon if that is the case.
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if your hypothyroidism is autoimmune
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least once year minimum
multivitamins never recommended on here
Most contain iodine best avoided with suspected thyroid issues
IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 3-5 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
endocrinenews.endocrine.org...
In days before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12 if last test result serum B12 was below 500 or active B12 (private test) under 70
ALWAYS test early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins
