good day to everyone I have not been on for a long time but just an update that might help other people …

I had a Blood Test for my thyroid a while back now as all of a sudden our doctors which is a teaching doctors as is my local hospital decide certain blood tests are not neccesary unless the patient requests them ..I have had my 3 covid shots and am a fit 76 year old well fittish lol

Recently over the last year have had covid twice and pneumonia and in general had problems with extremely dry skin and split nails and insomnia .so I made a call to get my thyroid bloods checked and I always fast and have test 8 am .I assumed as my form said TSH and FT4 that both were done .when I got the results on line I find the hospital will not do Ft4 ….only ..TSH since last year so as my FT4 is the one that fluctuates on the high side ..so I left it 6 weeks and had a word with receptionist to speak with my doctor would she accept private Blood tests as last time they wouldn’t .she came back with a form stating TSH and FT 4 but she also put on the form patient not on thyroxine .now I find out if a patient is on thyroxine they are only allowed to do TSH wow anyway got my results back today yes TSH and FT4 so the doctor has got round the problem for me and saved me paying .,

My results are ok but my FT 4 just above the level but said tests normal

But a request was on the form to do FT 3 in 6 weeks WOW they have never ever done FT3 in our hospital .has anyone noticed this where they live …in Basildon Essex .I do see my doctor this week so will find out what is going on with NHS .and any recommendations for B12 and vitamin D sorry a long story but might help someone else with NHS

Often even if FT3 is requested it won't get done. The lab decides sadly.

So if the hospital don't do the FT3 then you will need to pay for private blood tests. You also need key vitamis tested - ferritin, folate, B12 & D3.

This is a good B complex containing both B12, folate and the rest of B vits you need. amazon.co.uk/Yipmai-Liposom...

For D3 you also need K2, can often buy them in one product. You need to know your D level to know how much to take to get you to 100.

important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 at least annually too

Low vitamin levels are particularly common as we get older

When were vitamin levels last tested ?

Obviously essential to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Thousands of U.K. thyroid patients forced to test privately as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

come back with new post once you get results

Most GP’s/endo’s only test and treat vitamin deficiencies

Often necessary to self supplement to maintain OPTIMAL vitamin levels

Not had the TSH situation as they've always done TSH and T4 and I'm likely going through Basildon lab too. T3, not a chance. I'm on NDT and pointed that out last time but with the usual levels of understanding, they're never going to test for that. I'd actually love them to do these tests and understand why my TSH is low as well as my T4 works getting their undergarments in a tizzy.

thanks for your comment it will be interesting to find out why the T3 was put down on the report bu will report when sorted .

Labs across the country vary in what is / isn’t tested. Where I live it’s impossible to get fT4 done if TSH ‘in range’. As for fT3 both TSH and fT4 need to be significantly’ out of range. Based on my private lab results my GP arranged with the Senior Biochemist that they’d do full testing. She had a specific code to use to ensure it was done. When results came back it was TSH only, the duty biochemist said no need for fT4 and / or fT3. The GP was overruled by lab technician. A second request was refused as the lab deemed it unnecessary. For those of us diagnosed pre TSH malarkey it’s more than a little frustrating. On the whole testing is a bit of a post code lottery. Good luck

that’s interesting ican always get tests done private if doctor will see them as they don’t have to even look at them even if done in local hospital so a nightmare considering our thyroid controls all our organs thanks …
