Hello all!

Just got these bloodwork numbers back and could use some kind advice please. I used to take Armour Thyroid after a diagnosis of hypothyroid, then later Thiroyd from Thailand, and then only OTC glandular. I finally found a "functional med" doctor who put me on 15mg NP Thyroid after a test showed I had Hashimotos by TPO results. I had a big disagreement with that doctor over my ferritin level and hormones (I am 56), so I have switched doctors and am back to taking an OTC glandular with the following results:

TSH 2.39 (.450-4.500)

T3 128 (71-180)

Reverse T3 11.9 (9.2-24.1)

Free T3 3.5 (2.0-4.4)

T4 7.8 (4.5-12.0)

Ferritin 83 (15-150)

I had not taken the OTC glandular (claims raw, dessicated 130mg) for over 24 hours. I had stopped taking my multivitamin (which contains biotin) for a week before. The blood draw was at 11:30am- I couldn't get in sooner for a couple weeks...

My previous ferritin level was 260 in 2021. I donated blood four times since then and now- no worries! I see my new doctor on Friday so am curious what the "experts" here think of these numbers. I have estrogen dominance as well and was taking progesterone pills but became allergic to them... Now I'm taking (soy free) progesterone drops by mouth to avoid hot flashes. I would love to have more energy... and to be able to continue to eat healthy GF without gaining weight! I am careful but have been gaining nonetheless. 🙁

Thanks everyone,

Cindy

Hello Cindy :

How much Armour and or other NDT products from Thailand were you used to taking ?

This latest NP thyroid dose was just a 1/4 grain dose of 15mg so very low dose of just 2.25 mcg T3 + 9.50 mcg of T4 ?

I do not recognise this T3 reading and presume it's total and not Free T3 ?

We usually feel better with low suppressed TSH and would suggest you are currently undermedicated by the symptoms described but having Hashimoto's your levels will be slightly erratic anyway depending on the progrssion of this AI disease.

No thyroid hormone replacement prescribed or OTC works effectively until your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D are up and maintained at optimal.

Do you know of Dr Izabella Wentz as many forum members find her research helpful :

Thanks Pennyannie! Yes, in the old days before I had Hashis, I was taking 150-180mg of Armour initially and then Thiroyd after my beloved functional doctor passed away. I somehow forgot to include this when I posted- I do have a Free T3 result.

Free T3 3.5 (2.0-4.4)

OK then - good as Free T3 is the most important reading of all once on any from of thyroid hormone replacement.

Too low a kevel of Free T3 for you = symptoms of hypothyroidism just as too high a level of Free T3 for you would give you symptoms of hyperthyroidism.

Generally speaking we need to find a point somewhere between these 2 extremes of debilitating symptoms that gives you back your health and well being.

So with a Free T3 of some 15 points into a range of 24 points I think that works out at about 62% through the range - I haven't a calculator - but that looks about right, so there is plenty of room to increase the OTC product if that is your choice of treatment.
