New Blood Results

I have new updated blood results…

TSH is 2.66, down from 3.47 in November (no diagnosed thyroid issues and not on any medication) range 0.27-4.20

T4 is 15.6 (range 12-22)

T3 is 4.8 (range 3.9-6.7)

I am awaiting a full blood count including for anaemia to come back, the only other result is for Vit D as queried low back in November due to low calcium levels, and it’s 82 (I have been supplementing with 3000 BetterYou spray)

Have you had both thyroid antibodies tested at any point

You need folate, B12 and ferritin levels tested too

in reply toSlowDragon

Se thyroid peroxidase ab was 6 back in November (range under 35)

I requested B12, and GP requested a full iron screen, they’re not back from the lab yet…

Thank you

NHS won’t test Thyroglobulin antibodies unless TPO antibodies are high

So you would need to test privately

Wait for vitamin results first …..

Ferretin has come back as 5 (30-148 range)… awaiting a telephone consultation when the full results come back from the lab!

So ferritin is severely deficient

Are you vegetarian or vegan

Heavy periods?

GP must do full iron panel

Likely to need an iron infusion or definitely iron supplements

It can take months to improve low ferritin levels

In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron
