Hi, following advice from this forum I got my blood tested with Medichecks, bloods were taken at 8.30am. Would anybody be able to shed some light on my updated results and what they mean for my thyroid ? What could high antibodies mean and what are the causes ? Can high antibodies cause an increase in prolactin levels ?

Thankyou for any help/advice in advance.

TPO antibodies mean you have Hashimoto's disease, an autoimmune thyroid condition.

I read some of your old posts and you did start treatment. Did that not continue?

It would help you so much to address the low vitamin levels you have. Both to tolerate the thyroid hormone and to be able to use it properly.

Your folate, ferritin, D3 and B12 are all below 50% of the range, in fact you should be prescribed folate by your GP as it's below range.

Over 90% of primary hypothyroidism is caused by autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

High prolactin and Hashimoto’s often linked

Which brand of levothyroxine was 25mcg levothyroxine

Many people find different brands are not interchangeable and Teva brand levothyroxine upsets many people

Standard starter dose of levothyroxine is 50mcg

25mcg often increases symptoms because levothyroxine doesn’t top up failing thyroid, it replaces it. So important to start on high enough dose

Vitamin D is insufficient

Folate deficient

Ferritin virtually deficient

Low vitamin levels are caused by being hypothyroid

Low iron/ferritin often causes tight chest and breathlessness

Are you vegetarian or vegan?

Heavy periods?

In all people, a serum ferritin level of less than 30 micrograms/L confirms the diagnosis of iron deficiency

Look at increasing iron rich foods in diet

Eating iron rich foods like liver or liver pate once a week plus other red meat, pumpkin seeds and dark chocolate, plus daily orange juice or other vitamin C rich drink can help improve iron absorption

This is interesting because I have noticed that many patients with Hashimoto’s disease and hypothyroidism, start to feel worse when their ferritin drops below 80 and usually there is hair loss when it drops below 50.

GP needs to do full iron panel test for anaemia

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing. It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron
