Selenium 200ug. Thats a high dose, how long have you taken? 6 months of 200ug is suggested for cases of TED but long term this might be too high.  Do you eat any selenium rich food eg a few Brazil might be taking you well over whats required.

Magnesium 600mg once a day.  Again this looks high. Was this recommended?

super B complex 2 a day.  What’s the dose? Have you tested folate & B12?

Zink 15mg once a day.    Should be ok.

Vit D drops 2 drops a day. What’s dose? Again need to test & and this guide level of supplement.

Vit C 500mg once a day.  This could safely be increased.

What times do you take replacement & supplements?

Do you have recent TSH FT4 & FT3?

The 600mg Is per pill of Magnesium Taurate of 200mg and 400mg Taurine. Totalling a 600mg pill. You could increase the elemental part of magnesium.

Once you have results you’ll know more repost when you have them.

Do you tend to take at set times?

yes all in the morning as take Levo pm

Am I taking too much selenium I’ve just scared myself skinny reading up on that too much can cause issues. I’m going to stop it until I get my results.

So the magnesium is ok?

if your happy with the magnesium then its good. Magnesium taurate is good as a heart protector but other forms are available. Stick with what suits.

Do you have any signs of selenium “toxicity”

Garlic breath

Nausea

Diarrhea

Skin rashes

Irritability

Metallic taste in the mouth

Brittle hair or nails

Loss of hair or nails

Discoloured teeth

Nervous system problems.

Take a break then resume at 100 for a while.

the nausea hair loss loose poo not diarrhoea. Nervous system issues

Ok will do that thank you

so it could also be the magnesium as well.

I don’t know what to do for the best.

Been advised that it’s beneficial to me but I’m getting concerned I’m doing me harm. I’m going to lay off the magnesium and selenium until bloods done see if it subsides.

magnesium is not too much, I don’t think it’s an issue.

What are your issues?

What are your current test results and ranges for

TSH

FT4

FT3

Vit D

B12

Folate

Ferritin

Did you test selenium before supplementing?

Did you test zinc? This should be balanced with copper and we Hypos tend to have one high and the other low so copper should also be tested.

Normal dose for magnesium is 350-450mg.

hi

I’ve just stopped my complex B to get bloods done

I didn’t get the selenium or zinc checked but will ask for that this time

I’ve been taking the selenium with the Vit d drops

The magnesium is the Tom Oliver ones

Symptoms

Tinnitus

Loose poo

Weight gain Can’t lose weight no matter what I eat or don’t eat.

General feeling of not feeling great

I'd be surprised if your GP will test these. You'll probably need to test privately if you want them done.

The magnesium is the Tom Oliver ones

So that's 600mg magnesium taurate, which is a compound of magnesium plus taurine, but the actual amount of elemental magnesium is 200mg -

tomolivernutrition.com/blog....

Tinnitus

Could be low B12 but of course there are other causes

Loose poo

Possibly overmedication but of course many other causes including too much Vit C.

Weight gain Can’t lose weight no matter what I eat or don’t eat.

Possibly undermedication.

Post results when you have them and include the reference ranges.

Do test no later than 9am. Water only before the test. Last dose of Levo 24 hours before the test.

How much Vit D are you taking - the total dose not the number of drops.

Are you taking Vit K2-mk7 as an important cofactor of D3?

vitamin d can cause tinnitus but under or over levels can also and magnesium loose poo. What brand of levo are you taking?

What led you to taking 200ug selenium? That’s the dose I was recommended for thyroid eye disease (TED). Studies have shown that it can help with mild/ moderate TED but the recommendation is to reduce to 100ug when the symptoms have passed. Many people also take selenium to try & reduce thyroid antibody levels. You so need to be careful as taking 400ug or more daily can be toxic. You don’t want to supplement with selenium tablets and eat foods high in selenium (eg Brazil nuts).

You haven't mentioned iron or ferritin (iron stores) at all. Being short of iron or ferritin is extremely common. You might find this thread of interest :

This is by no means a scientific answer. If you have been taking vits and minerals for a long period of time, perhaps a break would be a good thing and then reintroduce them one at a time and monitor the results. If you think about how vits and minerals are acquired in health, they don’t come in a specific amount daily or seasonally. The body can ‘normally’ deal with this. Sometimes it’s difficult to appreciate the difference supplementation makes without a trial period of abstinence. Don’t forget to restart them though. I think it was helvella mentioned body odours with selenium overdose. I did not notice odour of ‘goat’ but I decided there was an odour and I stopped it. Odour disappeared. Unfortunately due to advice on another forum I have thousands of the blooming things left over!

Vitamins are food, food supplements. You don't eat the exact same food everyday whether you are hungry or not. That's a habit that causes health issues. I take one or two days off every week from all food supplements.

yes you maybe reacting to the fillers and binders that your supplements may contain or if you have aldrenal issues it can make you senitive to taking them. I only try to buy supplements that do not contain them and read the ingredient labels vety carefully.the supplements with these unnecesary nasties are of course normally the most expensive .

I got a bit carried away with supplements and started to get bad headaches and gastritis so I stopped. I only do vit d in winter now , brazil nuts for selenium and liver once a week and keep to a varied diet. Thinking of adding magnesium though . I would stop supplements and see how you feel
