I managed to get a T3 prescription from my endocrinologist.
It says:
Thybon Henning 20mcg x 30 tables (take 1/4 tablet daily).
I have emailed the copy to a specialist pharmacy and waiting for a quote.
My endo has asked me to meet him in two months' time. I suppose this is adequate for me for more than 2 months if I take 5mcg every day. I am currently taking 100mcg Levothyroxine.
A few questions:
1. Can I take T3 at the same time as T4 or should I leave some time between them?
2. Shall I stick to 5mcg throughout this period and go for a blood test or try increase the dosage after say a few weeks?
3. Any other relevant advice from people who have used T4/T3 combination therapy.
Thank you in advance.

1. Can I take T3 at the same time as T4 or should I leave some time between them?
Yes, you can. When you move on from 5mcg you could try taking the 2nd 5mcg later on the day. I used to split mine and take second dose late afternoon but found, for me, it made no difference but other members say they need to split dose. As with everything it's a case of try it and see if it suits you.
2. Shall I stick to 5mcg throughout this period and go for a blood test or try increase the dosage after say a few weeks?
I would have thought that your endo would have given instructions. If not start with 5mcg then give it 2-3 weeks, see how you feel. You could then add a second dose of 5mcg. Looking at your results in your last post you might find that enough so maybe stick with 10mcg until you retest before next appointment. Wait 6-8 weeks after increase to test. Take last dose of Levo 24 hours before the test and last dose of T3 (split dose day before) 8-12 hours before the test.
Were you told to reduce your dose of Levo?
3. Any other relevant advice from people who have used T4/T3 combination therapy.
Be patient. Don't rush anything. Don't be in a hurry to increase dose. Don't expect that you will need a big dose. Don't change dose of Levo and T3 at the same time. Change one, wait 6-8 weeks, retest before making another change. It takes a lot of gradual tweaking to find your sweet spot.
Thank you SeasideSusie and thank you for all members from whom
I have learnt a lot in the past couple of years. I hope I will feel much better. We have to see.
Were you told to reduce your dose of Levo?
No, not that I recall. I am on 100mcg T4 atm. My understanding is that he wants me take 5mcg T3 daily and then do a test and see him with the results in 2 months' time.
On a different note, the cost per 20mcg tablet works out to be 76p which I take it as much cheaper than other brands.
I don't know the prices of others but it seems that Thybon is cheapest, last I saw it was about 60p per tablet and there are 2 or 3 pharmacies on ThyroidUK's list who supplied at that price. Cost could have changed recently.
Out of interest, would ordering Thybon Henning T3 from Germany be cheaper?
60p per tablet, in my view, is still a good price but wondering if it can sourced at even a cheaper price ? It could be helpful to those who are on higher doses of T3.
I'm pleased your endocrinologist has prescribed. But seems poorly informed to have written the prescription for 30 tablets.
As has been said and implied, they might charge a higher rate for it not being a full pack - nor even a half pack. However, if they get lots of packs to split, it might not be much of an issue to them.
