hi. I have been diagnosed with atrophic gastritis on endoscopy .

they took several biopsies. I’ve heard nothing back as to management of this condition (as yet)

Mostly I find if there is something in my stomach I do nt have the symptoms of gnawing pain.

Anyone else with this condition. any link with thyroid issues?

Thanks

Hi Gcart what brand of Liothyronine do you take? Do you know what the fillers are in the tablets? I suffered terribel gut issues because of acacia powder which was in my TEVA T4.!

Gastritis is very often behind Pernicious Anaemia - or at least, low B12

I suggest you post over on the Pernicious Anaemia forum:

Do not start supplementing B12 until you have been tested because it might look as if you are OK even if you are not.

And don't supplement with folic acid/folate until you are sure your B12 level is being addressed.

If they recommend a PPI, take care only to have it low dose for two weeks only. Did they check for H Pylori?

Yes from what I’ve read here will be very wary of PPI. I was hoping for a definitive reason from the biopsies as to what might be the reason . Not sure if that defines it, Thanks for the warning

I was diagnosed with gastritis after an endoscopy & it was the gastroenterologist who first suggested to me that I might have thyroid issues. My gastritis symptoms disappeared when taking an optimal dose of thyroid medication & adopting a gluten free diet.

I have been Gluton Free some 2:/ 3 years now and certainly have benefitted from that . I guess it’s all autoimmune related with no answers as to how to stop the effects on us .

Thank you so much for raising this Gcart. Amongst all my other stuff I have this too. The doctor says there is nothing for it, except for the stuff mentioned but terrible for the constipation. Whilst mine has been diagnosed by endoscopy I have discovered, over time, it’s not actually coming from my stomach. It’s all around my throat/thyroid area, going downwards; not upwards from my stomach. Interesting to know someone has something similar AND that optimum thyroid meds will hopefully eventually sort it out. When desperate I have a green smoothie or some magnesium contains salts, similar to Sodium bicarbonate. There is ‘natural’ med, is it milk thistle which can help too? I find it difficult but if anyone has used it regularly and got results I will give it another go. Roll on being optimumly medicated.
