Is this worth doing if you have no thyroid not sure what it would prove 🤔
D102 Test: Is this worth doing if you have no... - Thyroid UK
D102 Test
Deiodinase 2 gene activates triiodothyronine (T3) and that doesn’t occur within or from the thyroid itself - it’s within the body.
Tiny changes in this gene could mean that although the body gets enough T3, the brain doesn’t. T4 therapy alone is isn’t sufficient so having evidence could support treatment with T3 combination

If you are well on levo there is no point. If you are considering adding liothyronine t3 to levo then you might want to test. But not all endos think the test is a valid reason to prescribe t3 and they would disregard the result. So the usefulness of the test then would depend on the endo you see.
I had this test done. I’d struggled for years on Levothyroxine. I’d been diagnosed with Hashimotos previously. The test came back positive. I took the report to my GP. It was clear from this positive test result and my blood results that I was struggling to convert Levothyroxine T4 to active T3. I was prescribed T3 Liothyronine combined with t4 Levothyroxine medications. Oh boy it was a huge game changer. I now know why I’d been struggling for so many years. The positive result report for DIO2 has been scanned onto my NHS file by my GP who was very happy to do so. The NHS now prescribe me with my Liothyronine T3 and liquid Levothyroxine T4 medications. Some endocrinologists might not take the report finding seriously enough, maybe due to their lack of understanding. I was lucky that my Drs acted on it.
Hi there could I ask if nhs did the gene test or did you have to do this privately?
HiI had the DIO2 test done several years ago as blood tests showed poor conversion. It’s only available privately, I used Regenerus Labs. At the time it cost about £150 - you can get the results sent to your gp or to a counsellor. They won’t send the results directly to you. The results for me showed positive. My gp used the result to get the endo at my local hospital to approve t3 which has made a real difference.
Depends what you want ot do with it. You can actually find the relevant info yourself if you have the raw DNA data from places like Ancestry and they charge you for your ancestry test half the Regenerus price while you get the raw data within it. With raw DNA you can actually do it for both DIO1 and DIO2 genes. If you look at Paul Robinson's website he explains the DIY process. If you want to show it to your GP or endo you might want to do it through a lab provided they will actually want to take notice of it. I just told my private endo what I found myslef and he accepted it and prescribed T3 though it was pretty obvious with me that I was not converting as levo never worked for me and I never went above 25 mcg.
