Latest results so little help from my friends please and thank you

Okay, little help please. I’ve attached my new medicheck’s results and can see a few flaws! I’m comparing results with February’s and my CRP is down, so that’s good. My ferritin is down from 47 which is disappointing as I’ve been taking 20mg iron without fail. I will now go back to my GP (Last NHS test was 24 so expecting that to have dropped too) and really push to see what’s going on, then I shall try Humanbean’s recommendations. My folate has dropped from 6.95 so I need to push this up, recommendations would be greatly appreciated. My B12 has dropped a bit but if I bump my folate will this also rise? Vit D is looking better and I’m happy that the new regime is working 😇. As for my thyroid TSH is up and T3/T4 both down. I’m hoping if I can get my vitamins sorted then these will improve or maybe get worse and then I’ll get medicated, either way it’s a win so I’m trying to feel positive. Although I am so tired all the time, muscle aches, complete lack of motivation (which is really bothering me) and a whole host of other niggling symptoms which I won’t bore you with. Thank goodness for you people, just knowing you are there with the experience and knowledge is a life saver, so thank you so much. Anyways, folate what’s best way to improve this please? Oh and should I be taking magnesium, might this help with muscle aches and or tiredness? X

my CRP is down, so that’s good. My ferritin is down from 47 which is disappointing as I’ve been taking 20mg iron without fail.

Don't forget that ferritin is an inflammation marker (as well as CRP) so if your CRP was raised due to inflammation last time then ferritin tested at the same time would be raised as well.

So your CRP is nice and low this time suggesting no inflammation, so you can expect your ferritin result to be pretty accurate and not falsely raised.

If your ferritin result of 47 was raised due to inflammation then true level would be a fair bit lower (although you haven't said what your previous CRP result was so we don't know how bad the inflammation was) so to have a level of 42.8 now without inflammation is an improvement.

I will now go back to my GP (Last NHS test was 24 so expecting that to have dropped too)

Don't compare GP and Medichecks ferritin results, they will be quite different.

My folate has dropped from 6.95 so I need to push this up, recommendations would be greatly appreciated. My B12 has dropped a bit but if I bump my folate will this also rise?

A good quality B Complex will help raise both levels. My suggestion is Thorne Basic B.

If you look at different brands then look for the words "bioavailable" or "bioactive" and ensure they contain methylcobalamin (not cyanocobalamin) and methylfolate (not folic acid). Avoid any that contain Vit C as this can stop the body from using the B12. Vit C and B12 need to be taken 2 hours apart.

When taking a B Complex we should leave this off for 3-7 days before any blood test because it contains biotin and this gives false results when biotin is used in the testing procedure (which most labs do).

Oh and should I be taking magnesium, might this help with muscle aches and or tiredness?

If you are taking Vit D then yes you should be taking magnesium, it is an important cofactor as it helps the body convert D3 into it's usabe form. Another important cofactor of D3 is Vit K2-MK7, are you taking that? D3 aids absorption of calcium from food and Vit K2-MK7 directs the calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can be deposited and cause problems such as hardening of the arteries, kidney stones, etc. 90-100mcg K2-MK7 is enough for up to 10,000iu D3.

For magnesium you would need to check to see which form is most suited to your own personal needs, and magnesium should be taken 4 hours away from thyroid meds:

Thanks very informative as always 🥰. My Vit D has K2 MK7 it’s a spray from The Nue Co.

My CRP was 1.9 previously.

I’ll get some magnesium from our local health shop this afternoon now I know what I’m looking for and stick with your recommendation for Thorne Basic B and if they haven’t got any I’ll order that on line. Will this push my B12 right up though as last year my levels went over range without taking any Vit B I had taken folate as I’d sunk right down after a long course of a particular antibiotic?

Just looking at magnesium would I be better with malate for fatigue or chloride for sluggish metabolism, both a problem. Or can I alternate days???

Thanks again for speedy reply. X

OK, so that's not very high so it may not have made a lot of difference to your ferritin level.

Have you checked to see which form is best for you?

High street shops (or supermarkets) really aren't the best places to buy supplements, particularly own brand ones. You will get better quality supplements online. You need to look for one with 350-450mg elemental magnesium (be aware that not all packing information shows the amount of elemental magnesium).

stick with your recommendation for Thorne Basic B and if they haven’t got any I’ll order that on line. Will this push my B12 right up though as last year my levels went over range without taking any Vit B

It contains 400mcg B12 (methylcobalamin) so yes it probably will increase your B12 level but your level of 76.7 for Active B12 is only 6.7 over the level where testing for B12 deficiency would be suggested (lower than 70 = test for B12 deficiency) so there is plenty of room for you to increase this level.

Any excess B12 is excreted in urine as B vitamins are water soluble. High B12 due to supplementing isn't a problem, it's a naturally high B12 level without supplements that need looking into.

There are B Complex supplements with lower amounts of B12 but I don't know any to suggest and as your level needs improving to at least 100 for Active B12 then I'd still suggest Thorne Basic B.

Already got Thorne Basic B in my online basket, I shall add magnesium malate to it as per your instructions. It’s so much easier when you know exactly what you need. Thanks again for your help 🥰🥰🥰
