Can you please look at my latest blood results?

Please find attached my latest blood test results, I've submitted several over the last couple of years and you've always kindly offered advice which I am forever grateful for and act upon. Last time I posted I was advised to start using Doctor's Best vitamin D3 and Zipvit K2 which I have been. I had been taking 50mcg of Levo for some time, which I was on when the test was done, but after discussing this with my GP I've dropped to 25. Other than that I take a statin, Black Kohosh, which helps with my HRT, and 25mcg of T3 daily, which I have to buy myself. As previously advised I took the test first thing in the morning before food and drink, and 12 hours after Levo. Thank you in anticipation.

Last dose of Levo should be 24 hours before the test, last dose of T3 should be 8-12 hours before the test. Can you clarify the timing of your last dose of both.

Hello Susie, yes, sorry I should have been clearer, I took the advice you and Slow Dragon gave me and made sure I did that, 24 for the Levo and at over 12 for the T3.

When taking almost any dose of T3 then TSH will almost always drop very low or suppressed

It’s irrelevant. Most important results are always Ft3 followed by Ft4

Ft4 is already low on just 50mcg levothyroxine and will drop significantly if you reduce dose

Is GP aware you take T3

Do you normally split your T3 as 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day

FT4: 12.4 pmol/l (Range 7.7 - 20.6)

Ft4 only 36.43% through range

FT3: 5 pmol/l (Range 4.4 - 6.3)

Ft3 only 31.58% through range

Helpful calculator for working out percentage through range

Most people when adequately treated will have both Ft4 and Ft3 at least 50-60% through range

Suggest you consider increasing your levothyroxine by 25mcg

Retest in 6-8 weeks

Essential To test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

Last dose levothyroxine should be 24 hours before test

last 1/3rd of daily T3 approx 8-12 hours before test

High cholesterol is linked to being under medicated for thyroid

Statins not recommended for anyone on levothyroxine

nhs.uk/conditions/statins/c...

If you have an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism), treatment may be delayed until this problem is treated. This is because having an underactive thyroid can lead to an increased cholesterol level, and treating hypothyroidism may cause your cholesterol level to decrease, without the need for statins. Statins are also more likely to cause muscle damage in people with an underactive thyroid.

If on HRT you swallow this must be minimum 4 hours away from levothyroxine

I did have a blood test with Blue Horizon but the NHS wouldn't do the draw this time, although they had previously, so I got it changed for a finger prick test which unfortunately haemolysed. I've looked at the Medichecks link you sent and I can't afford it at this time. It's only in the past couple of weeks my GP has advised me to drop my Levo by half to 25mcg. I'm 71 and have just weighed myself for the first time in years and I'm profoundly depressed to see I'm now 13 stone. I have told my doctor that i take t3 i did take it twice a day then i started taking it all at once, i cant tell any differance, i told my doctor my fingertips feel swollen all the time with a strange feeling a lot of the time, plus any slight be nd of my head results in me feeling dizzy and sickly, thank you for your quick reply its much appreciated

You need to click on blue reply button….otherwise other poster doesn’t get alerted

Obviously you are under medicated

Taking T3 lowers TSH dramatically

Medics dose by TSH

On an adequate dose levothyroxine plus T3 it’s highly likely TSH will be extremely low or suppressed

This is the problem when self medicating ……GP keeps lowering levothyroxine because T3 is reducing TSH

On levothyroxine plus T3 many, many people find they need BOTH Ft4 and Ft3 at least 60-70% through range

Request GP test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12

point out that long term PPI lowers vitamin levels

EXACTLY what vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Always test thyroid levels early morning around 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Day before any thyroid test…..ALWAYS split T3 into 2 or 3 smaller doses spread through the day and last dose approx 8-12 hours before test

If you were ONLY on levothyroxine…..without T3 …..guidelines on approx dose levothyroxine is 1.6mcg per kilo per day

13 stone = 82kilo

82kg x 1.6mcg = 131mcg as the likely daily dose levothyroxine required

On levothyroxine plus T3…..we would perhaps expect to take between 25mcg -50mcg less levothyroxine per day
