NHS latest blood tests

Hi

As part of my ongoing dizziness investigations I had a raft of blood tests early yesterday, fasting and with Levo taken 24 hours previously. To be honest I'm a bit surprised, my TSH is 0.10 ( range .27 to 4.2) this has gone up from when I privately tested in December and it was 0.05. But the surprise is my FT4 which was 14 ( range 12-22). In December this was 17.1. My FT3 wasn't tested, surprised surprise, but in December it was 4.7.

I upped my dose in February to 150mcg but started having some side effects of overmedication, namely headaches, sweating, insomnia. In April, when this dizziness started I dropped to 125mcg in case it was related. So two months on 125mcg and the migraines have gone but I'm very unbalanced. Really surprised at how low my FT4 is.

My next question is what to do? The results have been classed as normal so I guess the GP won't be calling to lower my dose. I get 150mcg issued each month so have plenty of tablets to play with.

Even though FT3 wasn't tested I'm guessing it won't be any great shakes either. As my FT4 is pants. Please advise, thanks.

Also folate was very low 3.4 (range 3.0 to 20.00) don't understand this as I take B complex with methylfolate each day. This has dropped since last NHS test in October ?

B12 was 2000, range 197 to 771, I get b12 jabs every 3 months so it's going to be high. Ferritin was 160 so above reference range of 150. And my calcium was too low 2.12 on a range of 2.25- 2.6. A mixed bag of results.

Low calcium suggests low vitamin D

How much vitamin D are you currently taking

When was vitamin D last tested

Which vitamin B complex are you currently taking

Did you stop it a week before blood test

Hi

I take a daily 4000iu vitamin D with K2. And a B complex with 400mcg methylfolate. And a B12 mouth spray as I can't absorb oral B12. Really surprised at my low calcium, folate and FT4.

Hi

Yes stopped B complex 7 days earlier.

Which B complex. Is it Thorne Basic B or Jarrow B right

Perhaps alternate with a separate higher dose folate

And week before test when you stop vitamin B complex, you probably want to consider taking a separate methyl folate supplement

So you need to test vitamin D

Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing

I have to take extra folate and extra B12 to keep my levels where I want them, despite taking Thorne Research Basic B every day.

I take methylfolate and methylcobalamin four days a week. If my levels rise I decrease to 3 days a week, and if they drop I increase to 5 days a week.

I don't buy expensive methylfolate or methylcobalamin, I go for cheap and cheerful, and I'm not loyal to any particular brand.
