Vitamins - Hashimoto & bonedensity

I have Hashimoto, I am on 50 mcg levothyroxine 4 days a week, 75 mcg 3 days a week. I take 250 mg magnesium and 4000! iu vitaminsD daily.

What other vitamins should I be taking? My bone density test shows bones are getting weaker. I have osteopenia and oesteprosis! Would taking bone up to increase bone density a good idea?

I posted recent blood test,

Recent vitamins D in range.

Thanks

Sorry, what do you mean by 'taking bone up'?

For good bone, you need optimal T3. There was no Free T3 result in your last post. Just T3 uptake, which we brits know nothing about. But, it did look low.

Sorry, didn't know that Bone Up was a supplement. It's definitely not one I would take.

You don't take any unless you know you need them, so test first.

You asked this in your previous post when you posted your results and I replied regarding your Vit D, and Iron/Ferritin

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

So now you need to test B12 and Folate to see if you need to improve these.

That covers all the key nutrients.

As for Bone Up, do you mean the Jarrows Bone Up supplement? They do two versions from what I can see, both requiring you to take 6 capsules a day.

1) Vitamin C (as calcium ascorbate)

Vitamin D3 (Cholecalciferol)

Natural MK-7 (vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7)

Calcium (elemental)

Magnesium

Zinc

Copper

Manganese

Potassium

Boron

2) Vitamin C

Vitamin D3

Natural MK-7 (vitamin K2 as menaquinone-7)

Calcium (elemental)

Magnesium

Zinc (L-OptiZinc)

So one contains a few more ingredients than the other but basically they are multi's.

We have to be careful with calcium, it's not necessarily what's needed when we have osteoporosis and with both versions the daily dose gives 1,000mg of calcium. Calcium should be tested before supplementing.

Zinc and copper should be tested before supplementing. We hypos tend to have one high and the other low so we should test to see what, if anything, we need before taking either of these.

I would check out what Dr Myhill says about osteoporosis before buying any "bone" supplements, she has a few articles on it:

Bones need OPTIMAL Ft3 level

thyroidpatients.ca/2018/07/...

Come back with new post once you get TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 result ….plus folate and B12

Always test thyroid levels early morning, ideally before 9am and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Are you currently taking any vitamin K2 mk7?

K2 is very important for bone health. It directs calcium to bones and teeth where it is needed and away from arteries and soft tissues where it can cause problems.

There was no Ft3 result in last test or folate or B12

You likely need to organise your own private testing

Tsh 0.65(0.282-4)
