Panicking as I don’t think gp has included the thyroid tests I need

I’ve just got my blood test results from surgery. It is my first results since starting T3. I had a zoom appointment with a private Endo in December and he wrote to my gp asking them to do a full thyroid profile. My gp confirmed he requested T3 amongst the other thyroid tests and the phlebotomist confirmed it was on the form. Perhaps the lab decided not to or am I not reading the results properly?

I’m panicking now as I have my follow up with my private Endo next Wednesday 23rd. I’m not sure whether to postpone it and get a private thyroid profile done which I’ll have to order. All feels a bit last minute.

As you on on T3 you should have ft3 levels checked.Labs can be awkward about doing it but I get it done on the NHS through my GP because I take T3 liothyronine.

Thanks for replying Lalatoot.Yes , my gp had, for the first time, agreed to do the whole thyroid profile.

Is it only tsh and 1 of the antibodies they’ve tested please? 🙏🏽

Yes no ft4 or ft3.

Only TSH there, no FT4 or FT3 test. Because your TSH is within range that lab might not do them, that's how some labs work despite the tests being requested by the GP. But it makes you wonder why they have included thyroid peroxidase antibodies when they haven't done FT4 and FT3.

Hi SeasideSusie,Mystery solved, surgery missed a page of my results. I must work out how to get them online!

Thanks for quick reply.

They may have still kept blood sample at lab

Contact GP as if they can get lab to do Ft3

Meanwhile order private test

cheapest option for just TSH, FT4 and FT3

£29 (via NHS private service ) and 10% off down to £26.10 if go on thyroid uk for code

You’ll need to postpone your endocrinologist

all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

On T3 - day before test split daily dose into 3 smaller doses, spread through the day at approx 8 hour intervals, taking last 1/3rd of daily dose 8-12 hours before test

Vitamin D could do with improving to at least around 80nmol

How much vitamin D are you currently taking

Ferritin a little low

Look at increasing iron rich foods in your diet

Hi SlowDragon, thanks for replying. Followed all the pre blood test guidance to the letter .

Yes, I noticed my Vitamin D seemed low. I wouldn’t have know that if I hadn’t been on this site . I sense Im very slowly grasping thyroid information compared to when I joined the forum. - perhaps it’s the addition of T3 which seems to clear my brain fog.

Currently I’ve got BetterYou

D3000+K2 spray but for the last few weeks I’ve not been as organised with it as I used to be. I kept thinking I’d not take it at the same time as other supplements and that I must research when is best to take it, I didn’t get round to finding out.

Is it ok to take with B Complex & my selenium? Is it best in the morning. With these results how many sprays per day do you think ?

🙏🏽

Yes….vitamin D mouth spray is absorbed in mouth so it’s fine to take after other vitamins at/after breakfast

Perhaps try 3 sprays - one spray = 1000iu

Everyone is different how much they need

You might need more in winter than summer

Retest vitamin D in 2-3 months and then Test twice yearly via NHS private testing service when supplementing
