Afternoon, I went and had private bloods done by medichecks and have the results. Again asking for help to interpret please. I am now on 200mcgs a day levothyroxine and feel a lot better, still have a hoarse voice and sore throat.

CRP - 1.6 (0-5)

Ferritin -210 (13-150)

Folate - 4.9 >2.9

Vit B12 - 25.1 (16.5-73)

Vit D - 105 (50-200)

TSH - 2.50 (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 - 5 (3.1-6.8)

Free thyroxine - 14.8 (12-22)

Thyroglobulin antibodies - 158 (0-115)

Thyroid peroxide antibodies - 461 (0-34)

Coeliac bloods normal (done at GP)

Do I know send these results to my GP? And any ideas what I can do about the antibodiy results. Thanks in anticipation as I have had the most help, advice and support from this group during the past 7 months.

Vit B12 - 25.1 (16.5-73)

The reference range you've given for your B12 is unusual. I had a Medichecks Active B12 test done about three months ago and the reference range was

25.1 - 165

with the units of measurement being pmol/L.

Can you check your results, please.

Can you double check your B12 result and ranges is correct

High thyroid antibodies confirms autoimmune thyroid disease also called Hashimoto’s

About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease

Suggest you trial strictly gluten free diet

Hashimoto's frequently affects the gut and leads to low stomach acid and then low vitamin levels

Low vitamin levels affect Thyroid hormone working

Poor gut function with Hashimoto’s can lead leaky gut (literally holes in gut wall) this can cause food intolerances. Most common by far is gluten. Dairy is second most common.

According to Izabella Wentz the Thyroid Pharmacist approx 5% with Hashimoto's are coeliac, but over 80% find gluten free diet helps, sometimes significantly. Either due to direct gluten intolerance (no test available) or due to leaky gut and gluten causing molecular mimicry (see Amy Myers link)

Changing to a strictly gluten free diet may help reduce symptoms, help gut heal too

Non Coeliac Gluten sensitivity (NCGS) and autoimmune disease

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/296...

The predominance of Hashimoto thyroiditis represents an interesting finding, since it has been indirectly confirmed by an Italian study, showing that autoimmune thyroid disease is a risk factor for the evolution towards NCGS in a group of patients with minimal duodenal inflammation. On these bases, an autoimmune stigma in NCGS is strongly supported

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/300...

The obtained results suggest that the gluten-free diet may bring clinical benefits to women with autoimmune thyroid disease

nuclmed.gr/wp/wp-content/up...

In summary, whereas it is not yet clear whether a gluten free diet can prevent autoimmune diseases, it is worth mentioning that HT patients with or without CD benefit from a diet low in gluten as far as the progression and the potential disease complications are concerned

restartmed.com/hashimotos-g...

Despite the fact that 5-10% of patients have Celiac disease, in my experience and in the experience of many other physicians, at least 80% + of patients with Hashimoto's who go gluten-free notice a reduction in their symptoms almost immediately.

hypothyroidmom.com/how-to-l...

Eliminate Gluten. Even if you don’t have Hashimoto’s. Even if you have “no adverse reactions”. Eliminate gluten. There are no universal rules except this one.

TSH - 2.50 (0.27-4.2)

Free T3 - 5 (3.1-6.8)

Free thyroxine - 14.8 (12-22)

Was test done as early as possible in morning before eating or drinking anything other than water and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

Ft4 is low in range

TSH on high side

You probably have room for 25mcg dose increase in levothyroxine

But perhaps try strictly gluten free diet first

Retest in 3-4 months time

Yes was done early morning and fasted with no levothyroxine for 24 hours. Having been Keto/gluten free and have lost 6lb in 2 weeks! Appreciate all the advice. Thank you.

Scottifi,

Your results have been unusual right through out. At first I though there might have been assay interference but TSH is responding approprately at last, although still too high for many.

Both sets of thyroid antibodies are elevated and risk causing inflammation that inhibits or impairs thyroid meds from working effectively. I would look towards going g/f (if you aren’t already) and supplementing selenium & Vit B complex.

Also looking at gut issues (ie you might benefit from some Betaine HCL, probiotics, etc to improve absorption ). Also your dad died of Addisons so has your adrenal function been checked? Have sex hormones levels been tested? Have you had issues with periods or pelvic pain?

Thank you, being trying keto/GF, not had any other investigations. Had a hysterectomy over 10 years ago. Will try the probiotics and supplements. Thanks Radd
