Frustrated with Endo

This is the response I got back from my Endo when I asked for Optimal vitamins be tested and that I wanted my T3 and T4 tested and see about getting them up in the higher range!

Your March 8, 2021 TSH is perfect at 1.56. Targeting TSH levels in a very tight range of 0.5-1.0 is not part of routine care, because of a very narrow therapeutic window of levothyroxine which often causes us to overshoot the target and make people hyperthyroid.

I am not sure if we have discussed this in the past or not but T4 and T3 levels do not add much information clinically, despite what you have read on the Internet. I will order them though if you want. I have also entered an order for 25-hydroxy vitamin D as vitamin D deficiency is fairly prevalent in Western Pennsylvania.

I am not sure why you are interested in ferritin, folate, vitamin B12. Typically these labs are checked in the setting of anemia, I would recommend touching base with your PCP regarding these.

Most people need to test privately to make progress

Very few medics understand the interconnection between thyroid and low vitamins

What vitamin supplements are you currently taking

Labs in USA

What’s crazy is that I am seeing an Endocrinologist from one of the well known medical system/doctors in the state I live in! They told me once my levels are in range and still have issues they want me to seek help for GAD too!!!

You need to test vitamin levels yourself

Supplement to bring all four to OPTIMAL levels

If you have autoimmune thyroid disease also likely to find absolutely strictly gluten free diet helps or is essential

But get coeliac blood test done BEFORE considering trial on strictly gluten free

Well I had GD! Then treated with RAI haven’t been the same ever since

Yes Graves’ disease is autoimmune

Many many Graves’ disease patients find strictly gluten free diet helps

After RAI its common to need addition of small doses of T3 prescribed alongside levothyroxine

Yup, anti-depressants offered here, and told by nhs endo that thyroid evaluation is done on TSH only. Complete disregard for 24 saliva cortisol test and told in a very patronising way (thought he might pat my hand) that I didn’t seem like a hysterical woman. Why offer me ad’s then?
