Hello,

I noticed a lump on my neck and an ultrasound has indicated I have lots of thyroid cysts the largest is 2x3cm.

My thyroid function test results are below and are considered normal.

Serum TSH level

0.87mU/L 0.30 - 4.20mU/L

Serum free T4 level

14 pmol/L 12.00 - 22.00pmol/L

Do I need to do anything else of just see what happens next?

Was this test done as early as possible in morning

You also need vitamin D tested

Thyroid testing.

You need both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested for autoimmune thyroid disease. About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease diagnosed by high thyroid antibodies

FT4 is at lower end of range

Ferritin low. Ask GP for full iron panel test for anaemia

Folate too low, but not low enough for GP to prescribe

That FT4 Is low in range, it would be interesting to see your FT3 result is like.

Do you have any symptoms? Any symptoms from this long list?

Ask for you own copy of the scan report. There are instances of doctors making comments regarding the size and health of the entire thyroid which are relevant but not passed on.

Have you been advised how often thee cysts should be monitored & if they intend to repeat blood test?

If your GP refuses a full thyroid function your may want to consider private testing.

TSH

FT4

FT3

Thyroid Antibodies, Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) and Thyroglobulin (Tg)

Vit D

B12

Folate & Ferritin looks low. Doctors are satisfied if anywhere in range, they need to be optimal.

I have lots of symptoms - no energy, so cold all the time, peeling nails, low libido, weight gain...etc et

I need to wait nearly 3 weeks to speak to the Gp again. But can investigate private tests.

Serum vitamin B12 462ng/L

160.00 - 925.00ng/L

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid) may be beneficial.

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

chriskresser.com/folate-vs-...

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus Super B is good quality and cheap vitamin B complex. Contains folate. Full dose is two tablets per day. Many/most people may only need one tablet per day. Certainly only start on one per day (or even half tablet per day for first couple of weeks)

Or Thorne Basic B is another option that contain folate, but is large capsule

If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results
