May I have some help with these blood test results please. I can see that they’re mostly too low but your interpretation is invaluable

Iron 15.7 (14 -31.3)

Transferrin 3.67 a tad above range (2.15 - 3.65)

Iron saturation 19% (16 - 50)

Folate 14.93 (> 5.38) whatever that means!

I get very muddled about ferritin, iron/saturation and transferrin

humanbean is great on iron so sending a call-outAs regards your thyroid results, can you get an increase of 25 mcg of levo? That should help bring up your "frees".

Any results for vit D and B12?

Hi fuchsia, I had forgotten I posted these results once before and got a response from hb and others. However, he has a second appointment tomorrow and I’m in a bit of a tiz

He isn’t on any thyroid medication (even though to me those numbers seem very low). We raised his B12 from 379 to 402ng/L (211 - 911)

and his vit D to 87.9 nmol/L by supplementing. Since posting these results last time, the doctor has said there’s no need to supplement his iron but we’re disputing that. It’s a bit difficult though as I don’t really understand properly the iron/ferritin/saturation/transferrin/haemoglobin relationship. I really feel he should supplement some more with iron but I’m nervous of overdoing it as I’ve read of the dangers. Instinctively though, I feel he should, especially after how much it has helped me. He lacks energy and sleeps badly. A bit of guidance would really help
