Found my sweet spot but T3 slightly over range. Is that OK?

Hi everyone.

I thí k i found my sweet spot regarding my medication. I'm on 100mcg levo and 37.5mcg Cynomel.

I took a blood test end of November to see how in range is my sweet spot, and realised that my T3 is slightly over range. I decided to reduce my cynomel by a 1/4 to see if it would make a difference, and I didn't feel quite right so I increased it again a week ago.

Is it OK to have a T3 constantly slightly over range?

I took my blood test first thing in the morning before food, and my meds were last taken 24h prior to test. I know you're supposed to leave 8 to 12 h for liothyronine, but I feel better taking all T3 in 1 go.

Here are my results along with vitamins.

My vitamins levels have improved greatly I think. Are they optimal now?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

TSH 0.01

T4 14.8. Range 12 to 22

T3 7.6. Range 3.1 to 6.8

B12 92 pmol/L 25.1 to 165

Folate 11.8 ug/L 2.9 no end range

Vit D 92nmol/L 50 to 200

Many thanks in advance

T3 7.6. Range 3.1 to 6.8

The problem here is that this is a false low FT3 result due to the time gap between last dose of T3 being 24 hours before blood draw. If you had left the advised 8-12 hours your FT3 would be higher. Therefore you are quite a way over range not just slightly.

Even though you feel better taking T3 in one dose, just for one day, in order to get an accurate result, it has to be worth whatever slight difference you may feel by splitting the dose.

Personally, I would not have my FT3 over range, I'd be unhappy with 7.6 with that range, let alone what your actual normal circulating level would be if you'd left the correct time gap. However, at the end of the day it has to be your choice.

B12 92 pmol/L 25.1 to 165

Not bad, I like mine over 100.

Folate 11.8 ug/L 2.9 no end range

Double figures recommended when there is no upper limit and although not bad I'd still want mine a bit higher.

Presumably you're taking a B Complex? Which one? You'll need to continue with it to maintain your levels.

Vit D 92nmol/L 50 to 200

Not bad. The Vit D Society and Grassroots Health recommend a level of 100-150nmol/L, I like to keep mine at the upper limit and in the current Covid situation and the emphasis on good Vit D levels helping then I'd aim for that if this was my result.

Thank you seaside susie. I was thinking that too. I will try again to split the doses and see if it makes a difference.Thank you for the feedback regarding my vitamins. I have changed my b complex to a stronger one from last time. It's Viridian high 12 B complex with 250ug B12.

I took a B12 boost (600ug) on top of that for the past 3 months or so and finished it now.

I'll stay on that b complex.

Thank you again.

It actually has 500mcg B12 - 250mcg each of methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin, both of which are the converted forms so that's good.

However, it contains folic acid rather than methylfolate and only 200mcg, you might be better with one containing 400mcg.

It's not a particularly well balanced supplement, it never is when it's basically 50 of everything or 100 of everything, and check out the %NRV, they differ vastly, and for long term use no more than 10mg B6 is recommended.

Thank you. I'll look at previous posts. I think you've recommended one before but as I live in Ireland, and with now brexit, I want to avoid buying online from the UK as it will be more expensive.

I knew that postage to Ireland can be quite high, but didn't give any thought to Brexit making it even more difficult. Seems ridiculous really doesn't it :(

It really does 😢

Your FT4 is also quite low in range. Looks like you have scope to increase T4 and reduce T3?

Thank you oforonward. I tried that before, but unfortunately higher t4 doesn't suit me. I'm better when it's low in range.

I was told severaly years ago by a knowledgeable endo (rare breed I know) that so long as you leep your thyroid hormones in range than no harm can occur. He put this in writing to my GP. Your Ft 3 is too high so your t3 does need to belowered. Too high ft3 constantly can cause geart problems. 500 for b12 level is acceptible but I would push it higher. B12 really helps with uptake of thyroid hormones so you may find that ultimately this helps with your sense of wellness. Personally I was suprised at the difference it makes. Taking a good b complex like thornes basic b is important as the vit bs work together.

Thank you waveylines. I'll try that then. It's very hard in Ireland to find a good complex. There's either not enough B12 or there's folic acid rather than folate etc.. As explained above, now with brexit, I can only find them from the UK and the package, tax etc.. Is more expensive. Also we're not covered with EU regulations anymore when ordering online from the UK. It's annoying really. Thorne basic seems to be only available in the UK.

I take a methylcolabamin b12 sublingual on top of the basic b complex........so you dont need to worry about the b12 content just the other b,s and folate. What about Lamberts? Or solgar?

Hope you get sorted. The ports are in chaos.......everythring seems to be taking ages to get through. Lol....
