For over a year I have had TSH towards top of range, and high TPO. During this time I have had 3 monthly tests and finally after much insistence managed a referral to see an Encrinologist, As my last NHS test was 2 months prior I paid for a full thyroid and vit level with Blue Horizon. The TSH was 4.89 range 0.27-4.30 and TPO 162 range <34, T4 Total was 106 range 66-181 Free T4 15 range 12-22, Free T3 4.71 range 3.1-6.8. Vit D 64 range 50-175.
The following week I had my well awaited Endo appointment, he dismissed the TPO results even though raised over a year, my hair, joints, tiredness were also in his opinion not thyroid related, the Blue Horizon results were also dismissed as non thyroid related, I was advised to take Selenium for my hair, however he requested new tests. The following week he rang and advised me of results , my TSH was 2.36, T3 4.4 and Free T4 14 and advised that handing back to GP with 6 month then yearly test as my TSH was well within range, I questioned how after a year can this drop by half within a week and I didnt get a response. I am gutted that these symptoms are worse, my hair makes me so upset as this last year has thinned considerably and I was made to feel that nothing is wrong. My question is can a result alter so much in a week and should the TPO result be disregarded.
I have also added as a photo screen shot of previous results.
Many thanks

Hiya, Test was 9 in morning with Endo, I deliberately didnt eat, I'm taking vit D now, B12 was 405 and Folate haemolysed, I find it strange that huge result difference within a week. I'm thinking of requesting second test and opinion.
Well you have Hashimoto’s, levels can change dramatically from day to day....or even hour to hour .......one of the reasons we can feel so unwell
Being on levothyroxine and reducing TSH down very low, can stabilise these dramatically changing levels. It’s one of the reasons Hashimoto’s patients need dose high enough to shut your thyroid down and stop these changing thyroid levels
Have you had TG antibodies tested. NHS rarely tests TG antibodies, will probably need to test privately alongside vitamins
Elevated TgAb levels are associated with symptom burden in HT patients, suggesting a role of thyroid autoimmunity in clinical manifestations of HT. Based on these results, we recommend screening for TgAb antibodies in HT patients with symptom burden.
Hello, I am really sorry to butt into this post like this...I was just reading it and was wondering if you could point me to the best way to get hold of the the list of recommended Endos...I'm not sure how to contact Dionne. Thank you, Catherine.
Thyroglobulin was 56 range <115, vits were only vit d and B12, cortisol was 924 with ranges varying throughout day, top range was 456 so that was high as well.
to be honest, I dont know where to go from here, I feel that although GP will do tests they still havnt confirmed what's going on, can I request the test or will I have to go private? as some results are borderline I'm stuck and symptoms which I've had over 3yrs are certainly worse.
Don’t lose hope. It will take time, an open mind and some research building up your understanding of your body. But you have good support and knowledge here and with perseverance you’ll get there. Hang on in.
Your cortisol is very high, even if it was done first thing n the morning it should be half of what it is. If your lowest result was 450 then that's high as well. What symptoms do you have? I'm wondering if you may have Cushing's syndrome which is where the body secretes high levels of cortisol. Symptoms can be weight gain around the tummy, insomonia, round red face, high BP, excess facial hair & hair thinning, muscle weakness. Are you on the oestrogen contraceptive or HRT? They can give an elevated result as can Biotin which is a lot of supplements. Long term steroids can also cause it. Have a look at the Pituitary Foundation website. If you are on Facebook there is a group called Cushing's UK where you will get some help & advice.
Hello Pauline, apologies for delay, symptoms , think it's best to start at top, very thin hair all over, nape of neck is really sparse, stiff neck which starts at base of skull, muscle fatigue all over, always feel exhausted, constant lower back pain, back of knees swollen, calf cramps, wrist pain, always cold, brittle thin nails, skin becoming more thin, veins becoming prominent and bruising under skin, bleeding under skin if I absenmidley have an itch, repeated water infections this last year which is something I've never suffered with. I've been on HRT (Progynova) 13yrs now and asked the GP should my hormone level be checked, told no need. Apart from the above I'm a good healthy weight, walk 3 miles a day and try to keep active despite always feeling stiff, not prone to coughs or colds either. I have body temp of 35.6 and heart rate resting 58bpm and a rash on my cheeks and bridge of nose which is proving more difficult to cover. I did see a trichologist who diagnosed short angen syndrome and requested blood tests to rule out Hashi, doctor dismissed this also even though TPO was well over as I didnt have a goiter.
