Further to my query about Dulexetine. I put a message to the practice to delete this from my repeats prescriptions as it made me so ill. A few days later I received a message from the surgery saying that there was a script waiting for me . It turns out that it's Pregabalin. twice a day. My doctor if I can call her that is apparently on one of the holidays she is always on when I should speak to her. Am I wrong in thinking that this is a similar sort of drug to Duloxitine. I am prone to side effects and I think my drastic weight loss doesn't help .

I.know many people take these meds without problems .

Pregabalin made me sleep for 16 - 18 hours out of every 24.

Since being sedated all day, every day, is not my idea of a good way to spend my life I would never take it again.

Gosh it wouldn't be mine either. I Have been taking

Codeine and paracetamol since two bad falls last year and am wary of taking yet another med on top of the ones I am taking already. I'm seventy eight and I feel like saying 'stuff your tablets , Iv e had enough ) Pp

Scrumbler. Some may say I didn't give it a chance , but the very first tablet had me up all night with (sounds awful) projectile diarrhea) and dry retching with awful pain . I have gastritis and diverticulitis problems. Add to that a Hemicolectomy . and my bowel doesn't stand a chance . Pp

The very best thing for us, the patient, is 'how we feel on a particular thyroid hormone replacent'. What suits one patient may not suit another and I do wish that doctors and endocrinologists would, at the very least, realise this. One size doesn't fit all of us and I doubt the doctors/endos are aware that the majority of us feel best when TSH is 1 or lower (and how many doctors stop increasing dose if TSH just comes within the top of the range.

shaws I've given up constantly explaining why my TSH is low. It doesn't matter that my other results are fine. All they see is low TSH and the fact that I use NDT. I haven't come across a gp or specialist who has a clue. Pp

What condition have you been diagnosed with that prompted your doctor to prescribe, first Duloxetine/Cymbalta and secondly Pregabalin?

I found the Patient Information Leaflets for both drugs :

medicines.org.uk/emc/files/...

medicines.org.uk/emc/produc...

If you look at section 1 of both leaflets you can see what they are intended to be prescribed for. Do any of those conditions affect you?

Gabapentin made me feel strange— seeing things that weren’t there out of the corner of my eye.

It did t help the pain either.

My GPS asked how it made me feel.

I replied other worldly and we left it at that.

I weaned off them, now I take co codamol or codeine.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t,but it’s still preferable to taking Gabapentin.

Crikey I've been using gabapentin for pain from interstitial cystitis since 2006, the only problem I have is waiting many hours for it to do something. I don't find it a good pain med at all. I only take it when I need it. I don't like the sedative effects, but you seem to get that with all pain meds. I had swollen veins when I first took it. At high doses I find it impossible to think straight, forget any problem solving. I tried amitriptyline in the early days, but when you're in severe pain what is an antidepressant going to do? Then it was on to tramadol, which was quite a good pain killer but made me itchy all over. When I recently took it after surgery it gave me psoriasis on my neck and chest. It's very difficult to find a suitable pain med for severe pain.

I was using gabapentin then pregabalin for neuropathic pain. Due to the side effects ( being ‘out of it’ for short periods and ‘drunk’ for longer) I switched to duloxetine which has been a big improvement - greatly reducing anxiety and allowing me to stop anti depressants. Pain levels could still be improved of course.

I'm glad to hear that you have found something that works for you. It gave me a real scare when I took the first pill and I had such a reaction. Its difficult not being able to discuss anything with a Gp Pp
