MUM'S MEDICHECKS TEST RESULTS - ANY THOUGHTS??

Some of you might remember that I recently posted about my 80 year old hypo mum who has had problems off and on with a cough and catarrh.

She recently did a medichecks ultravit test and these are the results

CRP HS 12.47 mg/L (Range: < 5)

Ferritin 95.4 ug/L (Range: 13 - 150)

vitamin B12 - Active 51.3 pmol/L (Range: 37.5 - 188)

Vitamin D3 – 71.2 nmol/L (Range: 50-175)

Thyroid Hormones

TSH 0.645 mIU/L (Range: 0.27 - 4.2)

Free T3 4.51 pmol/L (Range: 3.1 - 6.8)

Free Thyroxine 20 pmol/L (Range: 12 - 22)

Thyroglobulin Antibodies 15.6 kU/L (Range: < 115)

Thyroid Peroxidase Antibodies 9.09 kIU/L (Range: < 34)

The doctor's note advised :

"Your CRP level is high. This may indicate increased inflammation and/or infection within the body. If you are experiencing pain, fever or other symptoms that suggest infection or inflammation then I recommend that you discuss this further with your GP.

The type of CRP test that you have had is one which can also indicate future risk of cardiovascular disease. I recommend repeating this test in 6-8 weeks to see whether it remains above 3. If it does then I recommend that you take a more aggressive approach to managing other cardiovascular risk factors such as blood pressure, cholesterol, diet, smoking and exercise levels.

I am pleased to report that all your results for your thyroid profile are within the normal ranges. Your thyroid hormones are normal as are your thyroid antibodies revealing no evidence of autoimmune thyroid disease."

To put these results in context when you are considering them you should bear in mind that unfortunately she had taken her morning levo dose and breakfast before she did the test (if I'd had any idea she was planning to do the test I would have counselled her not to do that but didn't get a chance) and she did the test at about 10.30am.

Would be grateful if anyone has any thoughts. Thanks.

BTW she is on 75mg levo and has tried to raise this in the past without success - got the palpitations etc symptoms of excess thyroid hormones so had to go back down again to 75mg

Sorry your post was missed

Previous post.....you say test done 10.30 am and levothyroxine taken before test ...

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

So false high Ft4

Ft3 is only 38% through range. Many people would find that too low

chorobytarczycy.eu/kalkulator

Ferritin is good

B12 could be better

Pity Medichecks not including folate as standard anymore

Has she had vitamin D tested?

Thanks Slowdragon - espec for the comment re T3 - calculator was very helpful. What should she do about that? Does it indicate she is a poor converter and rather than trying to increase her levo dose would she be better to try NDT or add some T3?

Her vitamin D was tested as part of the ultravit test [see results above] and the result was Vitamin D3 – 71.2 nmol/L (Range: 50-175) which surprised me as she has never supplemented and has the appetite of a bird!

What worried my sister and me was the high CRP result.

Thanks
