I have been taking Armour 1 grain for 2.5 months now. Previously on Levothyroxine 100gms. First blood test after starting on NDT gave strange results. Please see below. I have put previous test whilst on Levo in brackets.

Vit D - 61.5 nmol/L (68.3) - 50-175

TSH - 1.82 mIU/L (0.065) 0.27-4.2

Free T3 - 3.57 pmol/L ( 5.11) 3.1-6.8

T4 - 8.0 pmol/L (19.6) 12-22

Thyroglobulin Antibodies - 409.0 kIU/L (450) <115

Thanks in advance to all you knowledge people out there!

So high TG confirms autoimmune thyroid disease aka Hashimoto’s

Vitamin D still needs improving further

GP will often only prescribe to bring levels to 50nmol.

Some areas will prescribe to bring levels to 75nmol

leedsformulary.nhs.uk/docs/...

GP should advise on self supplementing if over 50nmol, but under 75nmol (but they rarely do)

NHS Guidelines on dose vitamin D required

But with Hashimoto’s, improving to around 80nmol or 100nmol by self supplementing may be better

Once you Improve level, very likely you will need on going maintenance dose to keep it there.

Test twice yearly via vitamindtest.org.uk

Vitamin D mouth spray by Better You is very effective as it avoids poor gut function. There’s a version made that also contains vitamin K2 Mk7

It’s trial and error what dose we need, with hashimoto’s we frequently need higher dose than average

You need Folate, B12 and ferritin tested too

As you have Hashimoto’s.....Are you on strictly gluten free diet?

Thyroid results

Recommended on here that all thyroid blood tests should ideally be done as early as possible in morning and before eating or drinking anything other than water .

If/when on NDT make sure to take last half or third of daily dose 8-12 hours prior to test, even if this means adjusting time or splitting of dose day before test

Is this how you do your tests?

Hello SlowDragon thanks for your reply. Yes I do fasting and had at least 12 hours from last dose to Test. The reason for my query was how can both T3 and T4 go down - particularly T4 was a huge decrease but there was not a corresponding increase in T3 as I thought might happen after starting NDT.

Last dose should be maximum of 12 hours before blood test

How do you feel

Results suggest you have room for 1/4 grain increase and retest in 6-8 weeks

I feel OK. That’s the main thing isn’t it!!

Having Hashi's can make your levels jump around. These latest results are more likely to be accurate than the previous set. You are under-medicated on one grain, as might be expected. Plus it sounds like you left too long between your last dose of NDT and the blood test, which would go some way to explain the low FT3,
