Blood test results, any advice.

Hello

I'm new to the site and was diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in August 2013. I've listed below the results of my very first blood test.

Serum Free T4 level (XaERr) - Below range - 3.9 pmol/L (11.0 - 22.06) Outside reference range

Serum free triiodothyronine level (XaERq) - Below range - 1.4 pmol/L (3.5 - 6.5) Outside reference range

Serum TSH level (XaELV) - Above range - > 150 mu/l (0.2 - 4.0) Results in hypothyroid range - Outside reference range

I have not seen any posts with results in this range, i have had one blood test since, the TSH was down to 116, i had another last week and due to see GP this Wednesday for my results. I started on 25mg thyroxene, now up to 125mg but still feel terrible.

Any comments or advice would really be appreciated

Thanks :)

Hi nicky, these are very unusual results but then it's unusual for a doctor to test anything other than TSH. How did you manage that for a first test? I hope they have tested all three since you started on thyroxine. This video talks about this as an auto immune disease which attacks your own T3 and T4. youtube.com/watch?v=2xm60Lb... There are more videos on differing aspects of the condition.

Hi. I have absolutely no idea, i think this is why i am so confused and a little concerned. Initially my GP requested a full blood count and Thyroid test which is maybe why i have several results. He has continued to test for all three since i just didn't have the second test result sheet with me when i wrote my post. I see him again tomorrow and will post the full results. Thank you ill watch the video too. :)

Nicky, if he tested for antibodies (TPO) there is a video on that. If you feel you have a cortisol problem, he has interesting comments on that and many other aspects because in functional medicine they look at what is going wrong during the different areas of the process. In other words, we often need to address low thyroid with more than just a thyroid hormone and that's why we often still have symptoms.

These are the optimal levels that STTM website recommends so you can compare your own: stopthethyroidmadness.com/l...

Did you get T4 & T3 figures for the later test?

It would seem odd not to retest these.

Hi. My GP has continued to test for the T4 & T3 as well as the TSH, sorry i didn't have the second test sheet with me when i wrote my post but he seems to be concentrating on reducing the high figure i.e. the 150 and 116. I see GP again tomorrow after another blood test, i will post all the results. My main concern is that i have read other peoples results and nobody seems to have similar readings to this. My GP has suggested I may have had the condition for quite some time, and put how i felt down to stress. He suggested i may have to increase the Thyroxine to 300mg before we see any improvement.

I think one often has to 'go through the mill' on treatment before you will readily get an Endo appt. [even if you get a good local one]. This makes sense as things may readily straighten up after dosage adjust.

I think you may need a specialist with your figures esp. if needing T3 [based on how you tolerate T4].

If it's a long time condition the likelihood for other issues is higher- and the room for error less on the way back to health. Just my view.

[Your GP may be well on the ball but staying ahead is the key- with this site behind you!]
