Hi everyone!
I am currently trying to work on my low ferritin 23 (15-250) and I have previously ALWAYS had low b12 alongside my ferritin and whenever one goes up/down the other always follows. I had a non moving b12 of 198-215 for years and I was previously on b12 injections last year but they were stopped and I had PA antibodies and gastroparietal antibodies come back negative so its unlikely I have PA.
My ferritin levels went from 15/20 to 89 when thryoid levels were good but they have now dropped and the ferritin has followed. Last blood test showed T3 4.9 (3.5-6.5) but this was on 10mcg T3 and I have since had to drop to 5mcg T3 because I am having trouble tolerating it - I assume due to the low ferritin and I think I am also anemic as I have low hematocrit. My latest blood tests also showed B12 of 1017 (200-900) and a high folate of 23.6 (2-17). I have been reading about how high folate can mask a b12 deficiency and how serum remains falsely elevated for awhile after supplements. I do find it odd that my b12 is not lower as it always has always been previously with my iron and also my diet has not changed but my folate suddenly shot up from 8 a couple of months ago. I took a 1000mcg b12 sublingual supplement on 30/06 and was previously on them more frequently back in early 2020.
My question is is it possible that the serum b12 is falsely elevated from the B12 supps/high folate and would it be OK to supplement? My endo wants me to take iron supplements because of my ferritin and hematocrit so if I did is it OK to take the B12 supps while I am on the iron?
Thank you!
