Taking B supplements when already on B12 injections

Just wanted to ask about supplements. I have just ordered some igennus super b complex, as I didn't realise you could get folate in tablet form, which is in this supplement. I have tried to take the Folic acid capsules and I can't digest them very well and they upset my stomach. I will only take one of these tablets a day. I have B12 injections every 4 weeks now since November, for Pernicious Anaemia and want to ask if I can still take the supplement if it has B12 in it. I also have Hashimoto's and take 150mcg Levothyroxine and Calcichew 3 times a day as prescribed by the Haematologist. I now also have it on my medical records that I refuse to be tested for B12 now I am on injections for my Pernicious Anaemia. I have been on the B12 injections since 2012.

You will be fine taking the B Complex. B12 is water soluble so you cannot overdose. Taking a B Complex will help to keep all the B vits in balance.

Do you know your VitD level ? How much VitD in the Calcichew ? VitD improves the uptake of calcium from foods so not always a need for supplements ... 🌻

Thanks for that information and my Vitamin D level is 70. It had only gone up to 50 after taking Calcichew twice a day for a number of years, which is why the Haematologist put me on it 3 times a day. My latest Vitamin D test was last year, and it had gone up from 50 to 70 after a year. The Calcichew - D3 Forte tablets are 500mg/400 IU and are prescribed by my GP

From reading here over the years I have read that it is better to buy your own VitD - on-line in a Gel capsule. VitD is fat soluble. 1200 iu's is a small dose. 3000 iu's daily would be better - if tolerated well. Increase slowly. Amazon is a good source.

Magnesium and VitK2-MK7 are important co-factors.

Unfortunately I can't tolerate anything in a capsule. I can't break it down properly and it gives me an upset stomach and heartburn, which is why I have just stuck with the Calcichew. What Magnesium and VitK2-MK7 should I be taking?

Too much calcium is not good. Were you tested to check level ?

Have a look on Amazon to view the Magnesium and K2-MK7 - there are many different brands to suit most ....

Also read SeasideSusie 's post for good supplement detail.

There are gel capsules - just olive oil and D3. Also under the tongue sprays by Better You that also contain K2.

Yes tested by the Hematologist and GP. Not had a test since last year. My Doctor's don't offer blood tests and only test my thyroid levels yearly. I will look at the other supplements thanks

So do you have your calcium test results ? Are you able to find posts by other members ? Go to top of page - click onto Members - type SeasideSusie in the Search Box and Posts and Replies will appear ...

Calcium was 2.40 mmol/L

Adjusted calcium 2.46 mmol/ L

The range was 2.20 - 2.60

My magnesium was also ok 0.90 mmol/L

The range was 0.70 - 1.00

Tests were done in A and E in July last year. Thanks for telling me how to find other members posts

I don't think you need extra calcium. Magnesium test is not a good one as the blood always maintains a good level. When magnesium is low it is taken from the bones to maintain levels. So just assume you are low and supplement. It helps VitD to work well in the body ...

I didn't realise that about the magnesium. I will get some ordered

Choose with care. Have you read SeasideSusie Replies about vitamins and minerals as suggested earlier ? So much great advice .... we have to read and learn lots as the Medics seem unable to help us.
